Starting my build thread for my 1985 K5. Will have 2001 LS truck motor, 4 inch exhaust, built 700r, 56s with 4inch shackle flip/52s up front. 14 bolt out back with a D60 in the front. will be running 37s or 39s on 17s.

That k5 looks way to clean to go rock crawling with. For the sake of the rust belt guys please don't. :eek1:

I do like your plans. :thumb:

Will not be doing any gnarly rock crawling with it. mostly something i can use as a DD if i need to or hit the trail if i feel like it. I work at a fabrication shop and get my gnarly rock crawling fix from the rigs we build and test.

Good deal, sounds like you have the skills and knowledge to pull this out and do a great job.

Should be a cool build.

Are those rockers roller at the pivot, but flat at the valve? I thought the LS engines were full roller. 4" sounds big for a 4.8 but it would be interesting to hear how it sounds. I would love to have an LS in my 88 K5, but it got a stock GM TBI 350 instead.

My Pickup is a 406 sbc (6.6l) full roller cam and rockers and i run 3" single with a cat and flowmaster super 44. It sounds mean, but the resonance is getting to be a bit much in the cab. I can't take the amount of noise that I used to.

Sounds like you have a cool job. You get to learn and try new stuff on other people's rides, and get paid for it. Hopefully that will give you a leg up with your build. I like the gauges, I have the same Auto meter gauges but in a full sweep. It beats the crap out of factory gauges.

I don't think they come stock full roller. not 100% sure on that though. & i will be running shorty hooker headers to 2.5 inch exhaust which merges into a 4 inch single and dumps near the transfer case with no cat. so not much 4 inch but enough to make it sound mean. & i am 19 so i don't mind very loud exhaust;) I bet that 406 sounds very mean! & yes i love my job. we mainly build Ultra 4 racers for the King of the hammers (not sure if you have heard of it). but we also do street cars and hot rods.

Most of the parts i will need for the motor swap came in today. Hooker super comp block hugger headers, Intake kit, all the hooker J bends for the exhaust, flow master Y merge dual 2.5 to 3.5, 3.5 to 4 inch reducer, starter, alternator, taylor plug wires, AC delco iridium spark plugs, walbro fuel pump, summit fuel pressure regulator, new aluminum radiator with shroud and electric fan and a few other fittings and plugs! Cant wait to get working on it! :eek1:
