I actually played around with making them smooth, took a junk panel and did a couple things, its way easier to use some sort of filler material then to actually sand them down. When I was playing around with it I did both ways and it took about an hour to sand down just a little bit of the panel with a DA and get it looking good. Took about 40 minutes to do it with body filler but that was letting the filler dry and sanding and then do it again. I liked how it came out with the filler alot better
Did you do anything to give the body filler something to hold on to or did you just leave it the way it was? Were the panels dried out and flaking wasn't sure if u sanded them first or not?

So realize this was a while ago. I scuffed them and just threw the filler on.

Boooooooo! I'd do the '86 front flip, or do a 4 headlight 89-91 grille. But, I am just biased, I can't stand the 70's single round HL front clips personally. Just seems backwards since you are starting with an 81+ in the first place.

Looks good so far.

My preference has always been the early front clips.

One of my main reasons is the headlight size is stupid common. New lighting technology will always hit those old 7" round lights. This truck will spend a ton of time on the road. IME unfortunately much of that time will be at night. So the lighting was very much in favor of the earlier style. I also really dig the stock 73 grille.

Only thing I need to change is the wiper posts. Going to take the clip off and put the engine trans in then on goes the 73 clip.

Lol, well you may have me then. I mean, I did work on mine today, so I officially give you the title of Slow Poke.

Love my 78 with 86 clip....
