1987 Jimmy build

So the 4L60E has been out twice, with cracked input shafts. The trans builder says the stock TBI 350 has too much power and between that and the 35" tires it's cracking the input shaft:dunno: Got to pull it out again and see if the input shaft is cracked again. It gets really sluggish, almost like its not using first, and when you manually put it into 1st it locks up. This time after sitting all winter it would barely move under its own power. Now im thinking maybe I should put a 4L80 in?? In other news the original owners son tracked me down and wants to buy the truck, and "would travel to the end of the earth to get it back" Don't know what im going to do. Would be nice to see it go to someone with a connection. He remembers lots of camping trips with it throughout his childhood.
If you have more than one truck, like me, and you don't mind letting one go, do it.
I would

No offense but I'm going to raise the bs flag on your trans builder. A stock tbi350 has too much power for a 4L60e? He knows that trans is the same damn thing as the 700r4 that came out of the truck minus the electronic controls right?

The 35's shouldn't make a difference on the input shaft unless you are always doing neutral drops every time you take off. Which I'm guessing probably isn't occuring.

By the trans builder's logic my little 700r4 in my '91 is on borrowed time with a slightly more powerful 5.3 LS engine, 35's and a camper on the back with a total weight at 6,300 pounds last time I weighed it.

It just seem like this trans shop isn't being straight with you and blowing smoke. Again, no offense intended but two input shafts on a 4L60e is very odd. Blaming a tbi 350 that might have enough torque stock to pull a greasy string out of a Coke bottle is just dead wrong.

Thats pretty much what i told him too. Theres no way the stock TBI 350 is making too much power, hell it hardly has enough to get out of its own way. He said if i pull it again he will take it apart and see whats going on. I told him i had an 02 silverado with 35's and they trans held up just fine. At least im getting good at pulling this stupid trans. So much for putting in a rebuilt so i can drive the truck and not have to worry about it
