1987 V20 Suburban 350TBI/SM465

Front studs went smoothly. It’s concerning that the outer axle nut was loose on both sides but that doesn’t seem uncommon

Realize I didn’t post these earlier but I finished the front insulation. These were right before I finished. Ended up going all the way up to the edge of the firewall and covered the tunnel as well. It still gets pretty warm. Considering another layer as well as pulling the dash off and lining the firewall. Need to read up on that to see off the extra thickness will cause any issues when mounting the dash back on.

shouldn't be to close then. hot air from the heater ? My blend door wasn't closing and I got some hot from the heater all the time.

Help!! I’m out in town and the damn thing won’t start. It cranks fine but no ignition. Tried leaving the key turned for 20 seconds first too

No spark or no fuel.
Ignition, distributor only has 2 wires going to the plug on the side. 1 is switched 12v the other is tach signal. If you have no tach there may only be 1 wire.
Fuel, can you hear the pump in the tank? Are the injectors spraying in the tbi?

Iac could be stuck, try cracking the throttle while cranking.

Is it even trying to start?

Got any ether? Give a couple squirts and if starts on that is fuel problem.

I walked away to get food. I’ll check when I get back.

No ether or anything i could spray in. Giving a little gas doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t sound like it’s igniting anything. Just cranking

do you have the small cap distributor with separate coil ? Also do you have a helper ?

How much gas has been pored into tbi ? If there is a chance it might be flooded. Hold the pedal to floor while cranking. This put the computer in clear flood mode.

Wes got it. Flooring it got it running. I tried that about 6 times before. Only difference was I pushed it back out of the parking spot. Maybe something was blocking the fuel pump or something and the sloshing cleared it. It sputtered and has a hard time but finally started

there is a plastic bucket in most EFI fuel tanks. It is there to keep fuel near the pump intake. Sometime they come loose and block the intake. Maybe this has happened to yours.

Or it might have taken that many cranks attempts to evaporate gas in the cylinders to get the correct air fuel mixture.

I tried to reproduce the issue today. I had read some posts about high temps causing temp sensors to tell the ECM to do odd things. I left it out in the smoldering Texas sun all day similar to Sunday but she started right up. I left it at a shop near where she died on Sunday to have them also look it over and they couldn’t reproduce the issue either. I guess I’m going to drop the tank and see if it’s nasty or has a loose bucket. If it was flooded for some reason, what may have caused that? I don’t want to get stranded again

Any chance it was vapor lock? Had it happen on a buddys cherokee, engine was at a happy 200 degrees but the fuel was boiling in the lines. Would not run. Pulled the hood off roadkill style and wheeled the rest of the trip. Also had a Wagoneer that would vapor lock. Heat shield fixed that one. Both trucks if you waited a while, (like going to get something to eat) they would fire up again once the fuel had condensed.

I suppose. I thought that was rare in tbi but of my fuel pump is going out of the fuel filter is restricted, the fuel pressure could be too low and vapor lock could occur
