I was just thinking through the list of Suburbans since starting this thread. This latest one is number six. We still own three out of six as well.
Working on Suburban #6. Spent the last couple days troubleshooting a code 42 issue that popped up a minute after firing it up with the new oxygen sensor. I did new plugs and wires after the compression check. PO had a new ignition module installed as part of a new distributor. I checked the cap and rotor and they didn't look good so I threw new parts in for good measure and replaced a sorry looking vacuum line while I was in there. No change. Swapped the ground cable off one of the other Suburbans as well since this one didn't look good.
Started troubleshooting using a guide I found online and was getting strange diagnosis results that I couldn't figure out. I rechecked the timing to see where the previous mechanic left it, it was good. Then, I realized I was misreading one step on the trouble shooting and reran the tests. All were good. Started it up and the code did not return. Runs great now. My best guess was a loose connection somewhere that I touched. Either the ground cable or the plug that is unplugged to set timing.
Anyway, pics of all six Suburbans...
