blazinzuk submitted a new Build:

1989 Diesel Jimmy. What do we have here hmmmm

So I bought this Jimmy to have as my daily driver.

Couple of things I need to address very quickly. The transmission is going out that is currently being addressed I will be getting my trans on Thursday from Mt. Home.

Need to fix the windshield wipers the back window (it worked several times before not working), lube up the power windows, do a complete fluid change on the diffs rad. engine etc. Double check the rear and front wheel bearings. Just go through everything and double check.

This is going to be a daily driver not touching it until it needs replaces kind of build.

It already has a 6" lift and 35s 10 bolts front and rear, have no idea what gearing

My first trip home with it got 19 mpg so I am pretty happy with that

Anyway here are some pics

wanna trade it for my burban :doah:

Nope :D

Did a little checking on the internet today and in fact they are 6" superlift springs front and rear.

It rides nicer than some 6" I have ridden in and it has dual shocks up front.

First order of business is to get a new switch for the rear window. Hopefully have to time to find one tomorrow and get it ordered.

My buddy who I took the transmission too got it done and ready, put a hardened sun shell in it plus readjusted the end plays so they were within tolerance, put a diesel governor in it. Said the trans looked brand new (which it was supposed to be) except the 3-4 clutches were burned pretty bad, that was due to the tolerances being off a bit. So the transmission issue will no longer be an issue after this weekend.

Another interesting thing about this blazer, it has the stock glow plug controller on it, and it works perfect. Keeping with my don't touch it unless its broke this will stay, many have suggested I put a manual control on it. I will when it fails.

Went out this morning and started the truck, was 25 outside I had not plugged it in and it fired right up with no trouble. I am very excited the engine seems to be doing so well.

I am going to drive the crap out of this thing once I get the trans installed :D

Nice Eric! Been looking for a diesel myself, although I want a pickup. My body is still prettier than yours.

Nice score, but what is that white crap all over it?

Rene

Very nice except for the white stuff. :waytogo: 19mpg is gonna be cool, it may even get better after some tlc:D

Yah a little early for the white stuff:frown1: Its sticking too, didn't get very warm today. Plus it snowed a little more this morning.

Have to add get the windsheild wipers working to my list and get the turn signal switch torn apart and replace the piece that does the self canceling. Mine don't self cancel

Got it licensed today :waytogo:

Cool glad the trans looked good, and hey the wipers worked, just when ever they wanted to

Lol the wipers actually work great Keith, if its always raining, pretty sure its the switch on the column, I have another one so it will soon be time to take a column apart.

Had to make several unexpected trips this month so the trans swap may have to wait until next month or when it decided it doesn't want to run anymore!

Been thinking of stuff I want to do and I have a question for the masses.

What is the most comfortable stock seat you have used, not just sat in once but actually gone on a trip in. The stock seats are pretty beat in the Jimmy and since it is a Jimmy another seat is easy to do.

So I am looking for your opinions of the most comfortable stock seat in anything you have used.

I really like the 2006 duramax seats but they are still spendy in the wrecking yards. It may be the direction I go. Color doesn't matter as next year I will be ordering seat covers (the kind that pretty much looks factory)

yep, i'd have to say the newer chevy power heated seats as well. loved em on road trips. like you said tho, spendy.

My '89 has 200k on the ticker and still running the original setup controller. In fact, I replaced it a year ago with another ACDelco unit after mistakenly diagnosing my problems as the controller. Replaced the wiring connector that clips to it this past winter and now it works perfectly. I like it.
Need some new GP's but that's minor.

I'd love to do something with my seats. I scored a set of low mileage, dirty-but-good-condition buckets out of a '90 K5 right after I got mine and replaced the dead originals. They were cheap so it was a deal but I'd love to go better in the future.

If your wipers won't park, it may be the park switch mounted on the wiper motor itself. I pulled mine off and cleaned the points on it and bent them down just a little to make contact with the cam that rotates around and pushes them together. I just picked up a 60/40 seat out of a 96 chevy, haven't mounted it up yet but seems to be much more comfortable than stock.

eric what color are your stock seats?? if there blue I got dibs lol
