1989 Toyota 4Runner

Building the truck my friend won’t be able to
It came with a rubber lid similar to what I took off. No gasket that I could see between stock or this one.

I'll have to look at mine but I think that hard plastic piece goes inside the new rubber lid.

can't say I haven't seen it before, probably will again. Yeap needed sorting, better now than later.

My thinking as well. Pulled that crap out and then just soldered and heat shrinked the wires back together. Don’t need trailer lights for this thing.

FedEx was supposed to deliver my new alternator today but tracking still shows it in Norcross, GA so I doubt I get it today.

Well first alternator died in 5mins. Bearings gave out and started to smoke. Second alternator installed today and seems to be working. Replaced the idler arm. Ordered some r12 to r134 conversion valves. Now to see if I can find a vac pump and gauges for a decent price or see what a shop will charge to vac and fill. Got new ball joints that I need to work the gumption up to replace.

Toyota ball joints normally unbolt from the control arm. can do with the control arm in the truck.

Yes. But still have to get it out of the spindle which usually involves a ball joint tool which requires pulling the cv’s. At least according to videos.

Finally got not scorching weather to work on the AC on this thing. The AC conversion valves I got didn’t fit. I’ve got a funky 3/16 and 1/4 and had trouble finding some. I think I’ve got some and we’ll find out Monday.

I went ahead and bought a new compressor thinking it may come with the valves and it didn’t. Of course I got the model specific to my VIN but my compressor has the older compressor on it. Mid year change strikes again (look at where the allen heads are).

Went to pull the evaporator out to replace the expansion valve and found it packed full of crap along with the blower motor packed full of crap. So now I need to go get some cleaner and get the evaporator cleaned up.

Also found rust on the passenger floorboard. It’s not all the way through but there’s a couple of spots I’m not thrilled with. Gonna have to wire wheel it and go from there. Guess I got my excuse to order new carpet and pad now.

All the foam in this system is rotten and falling apart so I need to source some new stuff to seal it back up.

At least I’ve got all new seals and everything is apart so easy to replace all those.

Maybe one day I’ll drive this thing with AC.

My evaporator probably looks like that also.. Too hot to get in there to clean it.

That floor looks pretty rough, hopefully it's not pinholed. Your windshield seal good?

Windshield is good far as I know. The wing window was broken a while back and my buddy just had it duct taped. I’m gonna assume it leaked through there as it’s in that area. Looking up from where the blower motor was, there’s no rust going up.
