Picked up a 1990 Suburban back in June for $600. I'm lucky to have a friend with a wealth of knowledge on square body Chevy's. It had a dead 700r4 in it when I got it(only reverse). So we put a spare he had laying around in. Damn thing only has 2 gears now. I bought a rebuild kit and my friend's dad had rebuilt many a' 700r4. Have a new cluster coming for it thanks to MAXMAN on here and a custom winch bumper with winch and roof rack on the way. I'll get pics up of everyrthing shortly. So far I've seen nothing but positivity from this site and it makes me excited to share my build with you.

What's the future plans? How big of tire/lift? Crawler or expo rig?

Either way, I'm in. I like suburbans.

I don't want anything outrageous, just 4" and 33's. It will get used often so it probably won't be pretty. Right now it's silver and black, but I want to go all black. It will be more expo than crawler. I had a crawler, and I loved it, but they are harder to use daily if you need to.

It will eventually get at least regeared and locked, regardless of the direction I go. I'm not a fan of breaking stuff, so I'll over build it. I see many ORD parts in my future.

Excited to see another Suburban build. I'm a little partial to them. What the specs on the bumper and rack? Are you building them?

I decided to build them after the last few I looked at were crap. For the bumpers, I'm starting out with just a winch box front and rear. Then I'll add on as I get time. The rear will definitely have a spare tire holder. A buddy just got a tubing bender, so we are going to try it or for the bumpers and rack. The rack will end up being more like an exoskeleton, because I don't want to poke holes in the roof. It will have a ladder, seating and rod holders up top for surf fishing. The rod holders will double as shotgun holders for bird hunting.

But, first things first. I have to get the 700r4 rebuilt, then the lift and tires on so it's drivable. I'll start working out any demons from there. Motor feels strong, considering what it is. I'm pretty excited to get this thing going. I haven't had a project in a few years and I was starting to get bored.

I love those big sexy 'burbs! I have 2 of them.

If I don't keep it 2 toned, I'm going all silver. Silver makes it easier to hide imperfections.

I did a tune up on it, cleaned the fuel system, changed the belt and a couple pulleys, and did an oil change. The engine runs strong, now I just need time to rebuild the 700 and we'll be ready to roll. I've been helping my buddy track down some electrical gremlins in his 1986 K10. It's only fair since he's helping me with the trans. All the other parts and trucks in the picture are his.

Got some new shoes. Decided to go 35's. I got a heck of a deal through a buddy that manages a Discount Tire. Also decided on a 6" lift. Bigger than I wanted, but plans change. It will give me some more ground clearance, and get the poles higher for surf fishing. I'm looking forward to having some time to get this thing together. I'm going to order the lift tomorrow, still not sure what brand. Any suggestions are welcome. 20160128_140509.jpg 20160128_140459.jpg
