1990 1/2 ton 4x4 Beach/Hunting burb

Work has come to a standstill. We had to pull my buddy's transmission this morning. It's slipping bad in 2 and 3. Since we are doing all the work on the Suburban at his house, his truck takes priority. We just need to get them both done by mid next month. We did swap my wheels and tires back onto the Suburban. Looks damn good.

San Antonio whaaaaaaat!!!! Nice to see a local around here. What part of town are you on? Looks like you got some room where you're working in it. That's always nice to have access to.

Well I made lots of progress, but I haven't had much time to get on here. I started a new, better paying job. I moved my family out to my parent's house to help take care of my ailing father. Used the Suburban help move and it worked great. Transmission is shifting awesome. I'm very impressed the Tuff Country lift.

Only a couple issues so far. Ignition timing was a bit off, had to set the distributor. The wiring for the dash speakers has a short so my stereo won't work when they are plugged into the harness.

I still need to install the zero rates on the front and install the front drive shaft. Finish building the spacer rings for my door speakers and finish cutting the holes in the barn doors for my 6x9's. I've also been running without the lockup plugged in until I can get 4.56's.

I really forgot how much I loved driving these old leaf spring trucks. It always puts a smile on my face.

I'm south of San Antonio now out near Poth/Floresville. But the work was done up in Bulverde at my buddy's house. I have 6 acres now to play around on.

Yup, I knew it would run hotter without lockup. So far so good. I have 3 friends that put 10000 - 20000+ miles without the lockup plugged in with no issues. Only 1 truck is down but that's because he popped the motor. I've heard horror stories for both sides and haven't had issues yet.

Keep yer temperature happy and I don't think you'll run into lockup-related issues.

Mine also ran for thousands of miles...until it didn't.

Temps don't get higher than ~190°. That was in Texas in August with air temps over 100° and me driving it like I stole it. Plus I have a pretty good size aux fluid cooler for the trans. But I do keep an eye on the temp.

Gears should be done within the next couple months with me driving the Suburban every other weekend or so. I have a daily(Fiesta ST) and a company truck so the Sub is a third vehicle/weekend toy.

Having some issues. When I set timing I noticed that the distributor cap seemed off. Turns out it was loose. Both of the screw holes on the distributor barely had thread left. Picked up a new distributor. Installed it and set timing. Ran great for about 10 minutes after I plugged the timing wire back in then died and won't restart. I'm out of ideas. Anyone else run into this? I set timing to 0*. I've checked all wiring and everything is fine. Just won't start, no spark. Tried 2 different coils. Plenty of fuel.

Got it running, damn wiring. the plug for the coil wasn't making connection. Plugged in the lockup, now I'm getting a little over 12mpg.

I picked up a brand new 4 channel amp for $35 from a friend who got it as a present. It will power the front and barn door speakers.

Work still slow down for a bit, the wife is in her last few months of nursing school. That means I'm on kiddo duty while she studies on weekends.

I've been there. It sure is nice after the graduation though. All the hard work from everyone sure pays off. Literally.

It has been quite a while since I've posted. Not much activity in over a year. This weekend my buddy helped me build a hitch spare tire rack from scrap we had lying around. It isn't done yet. I ordered a license plate bracket with a light. But I think it turned out pretty awesome.
