1990 Blazer Daily Driver build..700 might be dying

So I was having some weird engine temp things going on where it would climb to 210-220 and then drop back to 190. Tried a thermostat and that didn't fix it. Checked the passenger side carpet and it was wet..Ugh!

So I pulled it inside to do the heater core and figured if the carpet was wet I "might as well" pull it out, replace the padding and put down the sound deadener right...

The floor was not as clean as I hoped it would be. Mostly flaky paint and surface stuff, but there are a few small holes

Ordered up a bulk supply of flap wheels, cutoff wheels, a new helmet, and FINALLY got a bottle for my welder. WOW! what a difference that makes! I can actually weld thin stuff now! First project was the seat mounts. One corner of the driver side was almost completely gone. Had to rebuild the entire corner. The others just required some patches.

The scary part was going to be cutting the floor up to fix the rust! I am at best a Novice sheet metal worker and this was well outside of my comfort zone. I got a ruler and marked out the cut areas and went to town. Some blocks, a hammer, and a little bit of patience actually produced some decent patches. Little bit of tweaking on a couple bends, but these should get tacked in tonight.

Couple hours of tack tack tacking last night. Should be able to fill all the gaps tonight and make them smooth. Then some rust treatment, zinc, and paint. Passenger side is good except one small spot that just needs cleaned up.

Great job, those repairs look good dude :waytogo:

@NorCalAnthony off topic, but I saw you ordered the 18 piece seal kit from 1A Auto on here. Feedback? I have been researching seals to ensure no water gets on my nice new floors, but don't see a brand for what they sell. PRP is the name multiple higher end resto guys gave me for seals.

Sorry I'm still waiting to put the seal kit to use. We started a remodel a few months back that's been taking up all of my spare time and I haven't even opened the box yet... I think 1A Auto uses Precision brand seals but I can check to see what's in the box when I get home if you want.

That'd be great if you have a chance!

Didn't get any progress made this weekend due to the alternator dying in my Honda.

All of the metal repair is done. The floors are currently soaking in rust coverter for all the surface stuff. Tonight I will clean that stuff up and get some primer on the bare spots. Then:
Change heater core.
Paint floor and redo some of the seam sealer.
Install FatMat
New padding
Make new side panels
reinstall carpet and seats.

Ok so one more night of disassembly.. I "think" I am at the point where nothing else gets taken apart.
Got the heater box out.
Fixed multiple broken clips.
Removed all the old gross padding off the firewall. Passenger side was soaked.

I think now I am ready for prime/paint and then start applying sound deadener to everything.

Made some progress on this thing yesterday. Thankful for extra days off!

I got my shipment of Ryoken green in on Friday. I also picked up some seam sealer, a respirator, and some Rustoleum that is matched to the floor.

I got all the little broken clips and pieces fixed on the heater box so hopefully I can actually select where the air goes again.

I power washed all the carpet pieces and got the bases for the seats painted. I went with a semi gloss black on the bases. Everything was grey inside originally, but I am going to do a few trim pieces in black/darker grey. I still need to pick up some material to rebuild the side panels in the rear, but that can happen at the end.

Oh and I ordered a 20 something piece seal kit from Precision so everything with the exception of the windshield is getting new seals so I removed the top to prep for that.

Started lining the firewall area around the heater box with FatMat so I can get all that junk back up under the dash. I also pulled some trim pieces from the trail rig as they were in better shape.
