1990 crew cab.. Tow rig?

I was looking for a crew cab or blazer to replace my current blazer

Well I found a crew cab project but i think it's too nice (even though it doesn't look like it) to tear up. So here are the plans for it
79 ford HP Dana 60 (3.55)
14 bolt?
6.0/4l80e/246
4-6 inch lift
Humvee 37s

Car corners are good, the only rust is the rockers but it came with new panels. I have a couple extra pickups with the 6.0 drivetrains so I'll probably be using one of them. I'm taking the Dana 61 out that's in it and putting in a high pinion Dana 60 my uncle has, still on the pallet from a fresh rebuild. I'll need to find a rear end with 3.55s (can you get 3.55s for a 14?) probably take the heated leather interior out of the donor pickup. Will put vintage air in eventually. Not sure on color yet. Probably be a slow build to start out. Not bad for $800 though.View attachment 230298

I have a lot projects, including 3 or 4 Camaro drag cars. I like projects, and the blazer frame really needs replaced

Tow rigs are fun to build, but almost cost more money.

This will cost a lot more, but I have less than $1000 into my blazer because most the stuff in it I got free or made money parting out the vehicle it came in.

This is my current tow vehicle, 2003 GMC Savana 1 ton, but it only seats 2, and its apart getting heads, cam, intake, exhaust, stall and more nitrous for Rocky Mountain race week. So it won't be as ideal for pulling anymore

Wait. You are racing the van?

I think I might have already changed plans for the crew cab, I have a 2wd nv4500 and divorced 205 I might put in it, then I can just use my spare 6.0 and my 6 speed Camaro harness and computer and not tear up a perfectly fine pickup.

What's wrong with the frame on your blazer?

Did that crew come with any drivetrain in it? If so, what did it have? The NV4500 is a direct swap, would just have to come up with a new cross member for the divorced 205 which isn't a big deal, and possibly a pedal swap if it was originally a auto truck. Would be a cool tow rig (but I'm a little partial to square crew cab's being build as tow rigs right now, :D)

The front 4 foot of the frame is tweaked pretty good, and I just wanted something to start over with because I like doing too much work.

The crew cab was just a roller, previous owner had swapped in a cummins and nv4500, honestly I haven't even looked to see if the pedals are still there, but I have a complete donor truck anyway. I'm watching your build too!

Just remembered I have an almost brand new utility box sitting next to our shop, thoughts on that instead of the box on it? Would be a lot heavier, then I'd need an 8.1 instead.... I feel like I'm copying @Kay86K5 more and more... I even know where there is a complete 8.1/4l80 and transfer case with wiring and computer for almost nothing...

Haha....for me the 8.1 makes too much sense and will suite my needs and then some. If you have access to an 8.1/4l80e combo for pretty much nothing...it would be a no brainer to me, especially since the 8.1 is a pretty straight forward swap on these things. But that's just me :D

And that truck box looks in good shape to me. I've never really liked the look of utility boxes myself...unless you are using the truck for work of course. If that box was rotten I would maybe say go for it, but it looks like just some paint and that thing will look real good.

That's not a bad thing...

So when are you getting 44" boggers then? :deal: haha

The only reason I don't go buy the 8.1 is I have 4 complete running 6.0 swap donors and another 4 complete 6.0 engines.

The box is actually in good shape.

And, I would love 44s!
