1990 K5 Blazer Project "Side-Chick"

Aptly named because this project is taking all the time and money that should be spent with my family, LOL! The plan for this truck is going to be an adequate trail rig thats still nice enough, and comfortable enough for my family to enjoy with me.
The K5 is looking great!

How was the SYE process? Any tips/lessons learned?

Thank you man!!

Honestly, the SYE kit itself was pretty straight forward. Just take your time and thoroughly document the disassembly with notes and pictures. Especially where all the snap rings go.

I went ahead and bought a rebuild kit for the transfer case too. Getting all the bearings and seals out and back in were the most frustrating part. But, even then it wasn't bad. Took me maybe 5 hours from start to finish. But if you are more familiar with transfer cases than I was (wich is probably everyone on this page) you could probably get it done in half that time.

But I will say, getting a good set of snap ring pliers like these will be worth their weight in gold. Save yourself a ton of headache.

Ordered! Thank you for the heads up.

This will be my first time rebuilding a transfer case. I hope I’ll be able to get it done in 5 hours like you did haha

Your welcome! While your waiting for parts to come in, read up on the rebuild process. There's a good tech on this site somewhere that takes you step by step. The instructions on ORD's website are good too.

Had a hero day today and got the rear axle finished up. Set the pinion angle, welded in the spring plates and shock mounts. Got it all painted, and decided the time was right for a test drive!

Resounding success! It goes, it stops, it turns and it rides pretty nice!

I never pulled the snap clips, and only trimmed the excess core cable. I made my own mounting brace to get the snap parts placed where I wanted them.

Finished fabbing up the rear ebrake cables. I'm sure this configuration will change (I don't really like it on the bottom of the frame rail like that), but it should get me through inspection to get the rig street legal. Then I'll fine tune the routing and brackets.
