1990 K5 Build ( Ol' Blue ) : Rocker rust...

Are we sure this one is seated all the way?

At one point they made a stepped seal that the rubber would land in a different spot on the yoke

A speedy sleeve goes on the yoke, gives a fresh new surface to ride on. About the width of a soda can

Third would be a new yoke

Im reading mixed reviews the more i read... I don't have to change the crush sleeve do i? I found some videos where its simply mark the nut, stud, and yoke. Count the threads, take off the yoke. Pry seal out snd replace.. Is there a chance of me fuggin up the preload by doing this?

Yes if you over torque it on installation, but that takes some serious ummpphhh!

This you mentioned only will work if the seal is cut. If you have a groove in the yoke, you'll need to do one of those above

Ok thanks. Ill start with taking the seal out and hoping its just not seated all the way. Then if it is ill replace. And check for leaks. If it is i will move on to the other steps. I saw some guys use grey RTV sealant around the outside of the seal? Is that ok or a no no?

Not sure if it helps, but won't hurt

You can see from outside without pulling the yoke if the seal is seated. It will be touching the cast iron all the way around

Ok ill try and look behind the yoke flange and see if i can see any gaps. Thanks for help! This is foreign land to me haha

Note: selling your TV for BB16 money feels good:whistle:

It's a hard year to care...not a single Canadian team made the dance this year. :doah:

I usually pull for Boston and Colorado. Not good for either this year. Not sure who to pull for.
Wont be Detroit though.

@swettysblazer how long did your tailpan take, start to finish?

Took me a few days but I have crappy tools and a 2 gallon air tank.

Has anyone changed the pinion seal on 14 SF? The shop that installed my gears in the 10 bolt, also "looked" at the 14 bolt and replaced the pinion seal. Well its still leaking so i called the shop and they keep saying they will call me back and don't.. I'm going to go down there in person but if that fails.. Im wondering if i could do it myself? I've read that guys count the threads and mark the nut and all that but guys advise against doing it yourself? Wondering what the guys on here think if they have ever done it themselves.

I did this, and it leaked. Replaced it, and it didn't leak.

I have crappy tools and no air at all.. so i will assume it'll take me a full saturday and sunday to do... maybe more. ill do my homework, and try to be as prepared as possible before going at it.

for the seal I'm just going to try and replace it myself if the shop won't do it.

I've never known Nick to actually watch that monster anyways...

hahah yea.. it was an impulse buy.. walked into future shop looking for a 100$ wireless keyboard.. walked out with 3200$ in electronics:doah:. I didn't have a blazer to be addicted to at the time though so I'm blaming it on the blazer... and being from a normal, no work town, to oil country where they pay well!

Well, no Canuckians in the playoffs, sooooo

my love for hockey is about as far as watching the semi-finals. and onward to the cup, if a Canadian team is in the playoffs.. sooooooo... i watch about 7 games every 6-10 seasons :haha::ignore:

What about curling????????

Curling is like bowling.. its only fun to do with pitchers of beer!

Not having the TV while I'm sitting on the couch and doing 3.5 hours of homework:deal:, on the first day of trade school... is really nice though. Out of sight, out of mind
