Looking at different mount options for the rear. Going towards a traditional 4 link instead of a trailing arm setup, even though I think trailing arms would be sweet. Im a rock donkey - not a desert rat, and I need to accept that.

  • Looks like ORD uses Artec truss and tabs on the axle side and their own bracket on the frame side. Can one of you guys post a picture here of how the bracket mounts to the inside of the frame? I am thinking I am going to have to box it in that location but want to see what others have done. @Fastereddie are you the one who said they chase frame cracks in the rear?
  • I like Roberts Custom Trucks rear 4 link brackets. Looks strong with all the extra gusseting and how it indexes off the factory frame but he quoted like $900 for just the frame side brackets. Not saying I wont go that route because of the price but it does make me consider other options.
  • Also looking at generic kits from RuffStuff, ORA, and TMR. I am trying to find one based on a full width truss that is still low profile for height and uses Johnny Joints. Open to suggestions!

My frame is boxed and I wouldn't love mounting the ORD brackets inside the frame without doing that. I don't have any pics on my phone but I can post some later.
If you're using a 16" shock in the rear be prepared to notch the frame to get full travel out of it.

I don't see rear link brackets on Robert's custom trucks site? I'm probably blind
 
I saw on IG that Roberts was working on a bolt on long travel trailing arm kit for K5's to be released soon.
 
Yes I did get some cracks in the lower flange of the frame rail right where my weld was to the link brackets on both sides. I welded them up and added a crossmember tying the brackets together. That seemed to help alot.
My frame is NOT boxed.
 
Rear seat tube work is done and back seat is in. Need to feed harnesses through the holes.

Also, when I was under the rig doing stuff I noticed the tab for the sway bar is bent. I don’t have any rock rash on it, must have been twisted up pretty good!

How wide is that seat per PRP spec, and how much room is left on each side before it is rubbing? I am trying to squeeze the widest one I can, since I have 3 kids.
 
I ordered a 47" wide bench. It measures pretty true to the outside bolster. I probably have 1.5" on each side before it bumps into the wheel well.

The tabs were spaced 40" wide and I used these mounts to make sure I got the spacing right front to back. (Link to PRP Bench Mounts) These were welded into a hoop that was tied into the roll cage and the body. I guess these could be bolted to the floor with some fat washers under the tub.

Id say 2 grown men could fit comfortably width wise in these seats. Not sure how big your kids are. I needed to lift the seat up a little bit for my kids since they are trending to be smaller like their mother.
 
Thanks for the info, that ostrich looks pretty fancy BTW. I like the USA theme logos too.

My kids are smaller like their mother as well, if my son get's bigger, my wife could fit with our daughters.

I wanted to stretch the wheelbase to a short bed truck wheel base and put a full width bench in front of the wheel wells, but I just don't have time to do that right, so I am not going to do it.

It depends how much you use the top of you wheel wells, on my 73 we chopped the top of the inner fender to the bottom of a bench seat and put a full width seat, 3 adults could sit there.

That could work but I wouldn't like the look of that from the outside.

What do you mean outside?
You don't go below the fender lip.
We found just the right spot an we even put a couple of reinforced ribs in the top part to strengthen it.
It was a master piece
I wichop. ve to check but I think it was like 2-3" chop.
