1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

Just poking around different forums I think a Ruff Stuff cover might be a little deeper but I don't really care for the company and I'm definitely not gambling another $100. :surepal:

I have a Ruff Stuff cover sitting on the axle in my garage if you want/need any measurements off of it.

Thanks! I think I'll be ok. Were talking just over and 1/8". I can probably take care of that.

Well here it is. Chevrolet dimension Dana 70f. 3.5" tubes, Detroit locker with 1"trunions, nos gm/spicer 373s, last two in the country inner seals lol, Yukon chromo shafts, 55-3x joints, 35 spline spicer locking hubs with nos knobs, all new spicer kingpins, dana 70 inner knuckles, nos gm steering knuckles, all Timken bearings with aeroshell grease, 14b spindle nut, 1350 yoke, lube locker with chingon diy4x diff cover.
It will have a pair of TDS knobs for the lockouts but they will probably be here tomorrow. I am out of of money but it will get a diy4x tie rod as well. I have a nos gm drag link for it too.

Just fricken beautiful! Neat list of NOS parts, excellent job of collecting.

Hey, if you decide to get ride of the Spicer knobs, holla. ;)

from rag's to beauty

after watching this axle get built i have been thinking of doing my own front for a project if i was to do it . thinking start with a dana 80 rear and build it with the bigger aftermarket outters with king pins and 1550 joint axles from like a f-550 and there brakes .

So you converted a closed knuckle d70 to an open knuckle with kingpins?
How much just in parts did it cost?

Just the 70 specific items weren't all that bad. Inner knuckles were 250 and I got the Detroit nos on Ebay for 140. But the rest of it will get away from you fast. Just like a built 60 can do to you especially if you started with a housing only. I didn't have a 60 to use. The only used parts are the only what's not available new. Like the lockouts. The single wheel hubs, caliper stands, steering arm, and the diff carrier.
I seriously should put this in the blazer.....
Let's just say cost got out of hand.

but its so badass

Yeah lol not many people have the two piece cases and then the big trunion case. Got a good deal on that. Box was dated like 77 or something.

Very much the same process. This housing had inner shaft seals already and spring pads. About two steps less lol. I have been chasing this housing for years. Its essentially a drop in to a gm and it says 70f in the housing. For a spicer nerd that is badass. I'm not looking to wheel it so its a lot of work for almost no benefit and arguably negative benefit because it's much heavier lol

Yeah that's why I just stick with my 8 lug ten bolt. Cheap and it's in there already and I do not need a big bad ass axle. At least you can say you have it though. Just sell it to a truck pulling guy from the Midwest, they would be all over that.

Got the knobs today. This is a local wheeler buddy who took my new knobs and made a replacement set from aluminum. He makes all kinds of goodies and sells on Ebay. Also an elevated fill plug for the g56. Looks like it would fit well on a 205 also.

The axle is a work of art. That fill plug is nice. Now you won’t have to take the top off to throw the extra quart in and risk tearing that stupid ass seal. I need to get me one of those.

Couple guys have 14bolts or 80s up front these days, semi axle put back.
Lol, ridiculous.
