1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

Think x-over steering and some extra cross-members/ bracing would “solve” some of it?

Crossover and hydro boost.

And lower the tire pressure to 50. Not towing a bulldozer. I tow my 11k# skid loader+trailer at 50 psi and it doesn't even squat em.:waytogo:

I don’t have bumpsteer so I don’t think crossover would help. It’s all new just an archaic design. Literally everything that steers from the steering wheel to the tires is under 20k miles. I think I am just experiencing that old truck charm.
Normal people would probably not perceive the “play” I guess.

I can tell the difference in tire pressure with these and I prefer to max em out even though I’m not maxed out on the load they are capable of. Preference is probably gonna get the best of me even though I know they’d be fine.

Big rigs still use push pull steering, I’m betting the box has more to do with the feel, I’d say modern trucks have a better ratio which equates to better feel, I can’t see how crossover would help with feel

I've always heard crossover can come with its own issues such as frame flex and wandering unless you run a track bar like Ford does with their leaf sprung crossover style trucks. Like you said, you don't need it for flex so I'd just keep the push/pull style. Just an old truck and how they are. Drive it like it's 1991 and have fun.

Do you still have a rag joint type steering shaft? If so, maybe all the heavy parts combined is causing increased flexing of the joint?

If you have the tires inflated more than needed, the steering becomes a little loose, I would try matching the pressure to the weight and see if it gets better.
I have bought 2 trucks that felt the same and got fixed by lowering the pressure a few lbs

You might have some room to drop pressures. FWIW, after I got the front and rear weights on the crew cab, I did the math on the tires max PSI vs weight. Worked out to about 24psi front and 19psi rear. I add 4psi for margin. That's on 7700lbs total weight.

It’s still my first day. I’ve got to try all the variables to really dial it in.

Here’s you notice and/or reminder…

Video of the Blazer wheeling.
Video of the crew cab doing anything.
Also, a post about how the crew cab works vs expectations.

This was always my dream/vision with my crew cab, Congratulations on reaching your goal!
@obijuank5 ….waiting on video evidence

So I let you down without video evidence but I did get this.

It towed really well through the hill country and never got over 1250 degrees. It was a little stressful because of the mixed bad weather but I put 18” wipers and rainx on there which helped.
The turbo is LOUD loaded even at 30 psi and I don’t want to be an old man about it and put a silencer ring in it, but I kinda do want to be an old man about it.

I guess the best thing to report is no news and I don’t need to fix anything. I like that.

And then there’s the shipping update from alcan so I’m pretty stoked about that.
I done spent all my wrench time getting the blazer ready to wheel I’m whooped in that aspect.

No news is good news! Glad it towed well.

I need a crewcab in my life. We need a bigger family car and I keep pushing HARD for a crew cab. My wife says she wont be caught dead in a big pickup, but she wasnt fully onboard with the k5 until she saw our son’s face with the soft top in safari mode and riding around…now she loves it.

Maybe i just need to borrow one for a couple weeks to convince her how great it could be

Glad to hear that everything went well on the first trip.

As for the turbo noise. Air filter size and placement play a part in it. They do make intake mufflers. If you really needed.

A crew cab is pretty cool but since I have three kids I can see the appeal of a burb nowadays. Especially as they are growing larger by the day. I need a burb with an eight foot bed.
I hear you.
I have a suburban, or 3.
But I need to build my crew cab, I literally have a cab and a frame sitting in a trailer.
I have many choices for running gear so decisions decisions.
