1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

You going to pull that front crossmember and fab up a nice tube custom one? Or what's the plan there?
No, this is just going to get some strap to replace the strength I cut out. It's for the balancer to fit because this thing is too long.

Had to work on the dodge A/c today at Ryan's house. While I was there, I took some of the day to install the hydraulic pedals, manual tilt column, and cut out the crossmember. 3 things off the list this month. Not bad.

Is that cluster with the 6 digit odometer and trip meter out of the 88-91 trucks? Been looking for something similar. Especially with factory tach. Looks nice! Also, is this what the pedals went into that you got from me?

I think 89 had the only year 6 digit mechanical speedometer and then 90-91 were electronic speedometer. You can get mechanical 6 digit from big trucks nos still pretty easy. Those clusters had this combo tach and fuel gauge, but 30 and down only got the large tach with small lower left fuel gauge.
This is the on purpose k30, those are for the other one.

Not sure how I’ve never read through this thread, but just read the whole thing. So awesome. I really regret selling my ‘90 v30 crew cab now.

I almost regretted selling all five of my crew cabs but I have one I will be building, and it's the best one so far so no real regret.

Things nobody tells you.
Why does everyone pull their brake lines when they swap these? I saw a handful of swaps where the frame rails were bare. Where are they putting these lines after this?

Motor is placed where I like it and a finger gap behind the head to firewall. Front is close to the fan blades but I've got the cu1553 thick radiator. Might change out to the thinner core for a little more room. It only touches on the last few revolutions when taking it off.
It fits fairly well, but overall its tight.
Pushed it back out into the weeds until next time.

Pics for keeping track of things mostly.

FWIW, my 89 crewcab was mechanical but just had a 5 digit odometer.

I would guess they dump those lines and run new. Maybe they don't want to notch that crossmember?

I also was thinking they are also like cab off trucks and maybe rusty or something?

One ton jamboree today at Ryan's. Pulled the 4.56 Detroit 14 bolt from the 91 and got the 80 under but just snugged up. Now the gears match in that truck.
Pulled the 91 out and pushed the cucv in. Stripped that and pulled the 84 k30 4.56 gov lock 14 bolt and put in the 91 4.56 detroit 14 bolt.
Then got the blazer out to put the cucv out to pasture.
One step closer to the goal.

Crossmember is fully welded in and engine trans and tcase are in for the final time. Got alot of small stuff like the hand throttle put in. Hydroboost hoses are in. I think im gonna change the reservoir to relocate the returns away from the frame.
Switched to a quiet dual disc valair clutch because it's right at that predicted power level of the single disc I had in it. Next is fuel plumbing.
