1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

If you ever feel like doing some side work…..

There’s one locally that’s a dually k30 extendo-burb. He just won’t let up on it. Old show truck lookin thing.

Another sweet build. There’s a lot of beef on that truck.
For the steering drift while towing. What about swapping out the steering shaft. Tightening the steering box a little. Reinforcing the frame with plates.

I’m probably being picky if I’m being honest.
I have the 2002 express van ujoint shaft installed and the box is a parts store reman but it is still within spec on the sector shaft backlash.
The rivets are still tight so I don’t visually see any frame flex but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
I am going to do adjustable lower kingpins to get me back to about 7 degrees caster. I’m at 4 ish right now.

One other thing I’m speculating is I put on the fox ats stabilizer for fun and I think that’s holding the tie rod a little firmer than before so it’s making what play I did have that wasn’t a big deal now “feel” worse because I have to use up all the play before it can push the tie rod.

For some relative measurements we can all understand it seems like I have 11 o clock to 1 o clock feeling less responsive than I want it to be.

I know on my truck when I switched to crossover steering. That it had slight delay. I found the suspension was flexing side to side when I would turn the wheel.

I eventually added a panhard bar. Made a huge difference. Went from delay to very point and shoot. And that's with a ragjoint too.

I felt the same way, crossover gives you more articulation capability because of the longer draglink, but it puts a side load on the leaf spring instead of a parallel load when you steer. So it can feel more loose.

When I made my front radius arm setup after having crossover with leaf springs for over 5 years, the very first thing I noticed before I even got out of the driveway was how precise the steering felt with a panhard bar setup, night and day difference.
