1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

Its all about charm.

I guess it follows me everywhere I go. For example I much prefer traditional houses, hate modern/new builds. Our current house was built in 1940, but we have renovated inside to get most modern creature comforts but keeping as much of the charm as we could (ie original hardwood floors, original crown molding/trim, etc). I guess its the same with the square CC.

Dont worry, I will make sure I still have to slam the doors to get them to close all the way lol.
AMEN to ALL of that !!

Driving an older vehicle by choice is about appreciating what it is and nothing wrong with “standard type upgrades” for that era to fine tune your rig.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have owned a K30 crew cab DRW and have towed with a neighbors 1995 F350 crew cab DRW 7.3P/S and both of those beasts ( and these were fine pullers ) did not hold a candle to the feel and control, or comfort, of pulling with my 2002 Dodge 2500 SRW 5.9 H.O. NVG5600 at max GVWR.

I appreciate each truck for different reasons but no doubt I look forward to the nostalgic feel of an old square body or OBS Ford; but if a long trip was planned towing in the unbearable heat of summer I would want the comfort and sweet power band of modern diesel trucks.

Now, the price, up keep and reliability issues of new trucks coming out of “Detroit” these days makes an old square that much more attractive.

What sins are hiding underneath the dash carpet? (thats very 1980’s/90’s of you) or has it been on for 249k miles? Lol

Lol nah that’s been there since 2012 cause I don’t think we knew the fate of these dashes back then. It’s still there!

Ok guys it’s big dumb mud truck time.

The k30 is going to get some honkin tires on it one way or another. The plan right now is as follows:

8” front springs, zero rate 1.5 forward. I already have a 1” body lift on it.

42 tsl on 17x10 hubcap wheels with a 4” backspace.

I’m afraid it’s gonna rub the back of the fender. I’m probably OK with cutting the front fang off a little.
I’m also afraid it’s not gonna stick out enough and look as ridiculous as I want.

I swear the internet has blocked all pictures of 10” lifted squares to see what this looks like.
Just to get this out of the way, I will NOT run a 52 up front.

Who’s got pics to talk me into this further?

My old crew cab had 6” and 35’s on 12” wide wheels (4.5” backspacing, iirc) and it rubbed occasionally. 8” and 42’s might drive around ok but I guarantee they’ll rub off road.

Since you mentioned 10” lift trucks so…

This is @tarussell old 83 dually with about 10” lift and 38’s, it’s a narrow set up but you can see the height bs tires.

Also check the Chevy’s in the Wild thread, Tom posted a couple of other pics of the dually there yesterday.

My math didn’t quite work out so good on leveling out that truck using two sets of springs to achieve the lift.
The rear came out to be right at 9-1/2” but the front was 11” dead on so keep that in mind for judging the front clearance.

its happening before our very eyes! love it. I’ll see if i can dig up a pic of my old blazer that was 8” spring + zero-rates in front and 42” TSL’s

Time for a 540 merlin swap? Feels like you need a new build thread lol
