1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

Is the vss an entire system by itself? I can just remove the Speedo and that wire set and convert it?

What do you think of those toyos? My tow rig/Mtn truck needs new tires. Probably gonna go one size smaller than a 315.

These are the second set and I love them. Low road noise and higher ride comfort than nitto trail grapplers that I had before. They are excellent and every set I sell people say the same. They are round as hell right out of the box. Great quality tire.

+1 on the Toyo's I have a set of AT's on my work truck that just passed 90,000 miles and they still have a little life left. They really are good tires.

I've never bought a set of big ones however, I'd hope they would wear and behave similarly.

I’ve been eye balling a used set of 315’s at work lately. I may try to get my hands on them. These cheap mud terrains are stupid noisy.

These are the 315s. I wish they were 37s cause all the cool kids have 37s. I hope it looks good with the 4" lift.

I took my wife and daughter out to dinner tonight in it. Went over very well. Pretty comfortable and a quiet driver. We could have a conversation without much road noise. Car seat fit well in the back and the baby liked it. Can't argue with that.

VSS is needed currently for your TBI350 to run properly (and probably your 4l80 to shift, but not sure if your 4l80 is electronically controlled or not...wasn't sure about those first years of that tranny). The wiring goes from the t-case up to a little module box behind the dash. That box then splits the wires and one goes to the gauge on the cluster, and the other goes to the ECM so the motor knows "approximately" how fast you are traveling to keep idle characteristics in check (and I think it performs a few other functions as far as the tune goes, can't remember off hand though).

However, when you swap to 12v/NV4500, none of your drivetrain should give a crap about mph, so VSS is unnecessary if you ask me. So all you care about is having a speedo working so the driver knows how fast the truck is going. Since your new NP205 is set up for mechanical speedo...just get a mechanical speedo gauge from a cluster along with the actual mechanical speedo cable itself, and boom you are done.

Even on my 8.1 swap I'm doing...I don't need VSS to run that motor (running NV4500 behind mine too, so no need for VSS for electronic tranny either). So I just have my mechanical speedo from the 205 going to my mechanical gauge in my cluster, and that's it. The rest of the wiring for the 8.1 will be completely stand alone from the rest of the truck (with it's own little fuse box on it's own harness). The fact you will be running a pretty much full mechanical drivetrain, VSS is not needed for you at all

Added a new old stock steering wheel. Completely changed the way the truck feels. Literally. The old one was real slick and worn. Not sticky though.

Oh my god this is nice. I am too young to have bought new. This is as close as I can ever get.

I also bought some usa1 silverado door panels but they are not here yet. I hope they 're better than the 79 ones I got the other day.

It's the little details like that, that will make all the difference in the world with a truck. Excellent upgrade. :thumb:

I found one on eBay that wasn't a thousand dollars. Probably because it's a custom deluxe wheel and not a silverado.

I search alot for nos cucv parts and there's one there for a couple hundred bucks.

I had no idea a NOS steering wheel could cost that much? That does look really nice in there. I bet that is a very nice feeling upgrade. I wish my old wheel was in better shape.

Usa1 door panels are pretty sharp for 81-87. They are much thicker than the 79 panels I have used. Only notable issues that I dont see mentioned elsewhere are that upgrading to the silverado panels you get the pull strap. However if you don't have a silverado door you don't have the bracket for the pull strap. The strap is firm but it needs to be anchored to the door shell itself to be really used. The door wiper seal is stapled on for whatever reason. The carpet is secured by velcro and the handle bucket. Skeptical at first but I wont try and pull it off and it wont bother me. The arm rest is not soft like oem. It's a brick with 1/4" pad on top. Lastly the texture is much more coarse than oem. Negligible honestly, but why not get it closer to original if they are going to be marketed as restoration parts.

They are good thick plastic panels and pretty firm when you knock on em. Fit is really good overall. Holes lined up with the screw holes very well. Pull strap cover pieces have a little bit extra material on the clip that I had to trim. They wouldn't seat all the way. One second and it was fixed. No big deal. The color is nice and they are black panels that are sprayed. Scratch resistance is pretty good.

Price is up there but they do deserve some credit. Probably the best I have ever seen and installed next to original GM.

I asked about crew and burb rear panels to match and they are working on it and I think they said mid year release. Maybe.
