This in on ebay and is claimed to be a '91. The front end doesn't look familiar to me (thought 89+ went with the dual side-by-side headlights) and I don't think I have ever seen a K5 with a front bench seat. Is that an add on that the owner put in? The steering wheel also doesn't look to be a later model?

It is a pretty nice K5 though.

Well it is a base model Scottsdale so that is why it has a bench and the crappy wheel as opposed to the 4 spoke.

That's the "utility" grille that came in with the 89 "freshening". I almost bought a cherry K5 like that right about a decade ago...:doah:

I'm not sure but either the base models got the older style steering wheel (I know that was the one of the two wheels you could get in '86) after '89 or perhaps, being a base model truck, it didn't have a tilt column and he or somebody swapped in an earlier truck's tilt column and kept the steering wheel.

Oh yeah, and as mentioned above the bench seat was factory. Not common but it was a factory option. Heck, you could still get a bench seat in the 92+ K1500 Blazers and Yukons, even into the 2 door Tahoes!

Definantly a '91 and is a bottom of the list packaged Scottsdale, as already mentioned.

GM trucks like that is a perfect example why I get so turned off by base models, they are ugly as can be.

It needs some trim, at least something to make it not look like a solid blue blob.

Bah...me no likey da trim. Plain and simple.

Do like the blue though...:)

I like the unbroke body lines...that is just me though. Not a fan of the grille, reminds me of the ifs beginings. Haha

I do kinda wish i had a bench sometimes though... :D

Otherwise that is a realy clean k5.

f*ck the trim, wheelwell chrome , white letter tires, and the rest of the fru-fru....

Heck, I may ditch my badges...

I used to think the badges were must just for the old school coolness.

Now I feel no reason to put them on Big Ugly, even after I repaint it.

I know the qrters I'm about to do wont get em back on... I'm sure the fenders will dissappear at some point too... I think it's cleaner looking.... Less distraction to the eye....

IMO that's the ugliest grille the trucks came out with. knew it was that one by just reading your comment and sure enough i was right. i'm not much on chrome or badges either. i like it all slick but look at what i'm driving...nothing to brag about

Yeah it is...look at all the yuppified 4x4's out there now-a-days. Our trucks might not be all aerodynamically swoopy and don't have all the best options (or working best options for those of you with Gin-U-Wine GM 80's power windows) but they were designed and built when driving a truck meant something different than driving a car. I'll take my oil leaking, saggy door hinges, rust popping up, loud as hell inside and out, loose steering pickup over a '07 4x4 anything...unless someone wanted to give me a free diesel Super Duty vinyl-seats-and-stick-shift model.

i'd rather have a cummins but yeah i hear what you're sayin there

Base model. Not a Silverado. My buddy has an '88 that looks exactly like this one, down to the same grille and paint color.

So would I but I won't go near another Chrysler after my '99 Ram 1500...rusty and falling apart after 3 pampered years.

I no know about the bench, Wouldn't federal law require it to have head rest? Me thinks it not factory.

It's factory, that's an established fact.

Now, granted it may not be as offroad comfortable as my K5, but we just picked up an '07 Duramax Silverado for our business. I would take that any day over my blazer. I love my blazer, but damn is that silverado one hell of a truck!!!

I would also take that over any other diesel, hands down. VERRRRRYYY quiet (for a diesel) and a ton of power. :eek1:

Yeah, great for pulling and hauling...but go drive it over some deep ruts or anything twisty. Torsion bar IFS sucks. Will NEVER buy that crap again.

Ah....you guys are goofy.:p: You can keep your stripped down no badging, trim, anything naked trucks all you want.

I don't like trim at all on newer trucks, like my Ram with the Sport package that is completely match painted with zero plastic trim, but on the 80's Chevies, having the full SILVERADO exterior trim package really meant something back then. There is such a huge difference between a Scottsdale and Silverado, and back in the day when these were new someone would say "oh wow, it's a Silverado", that is part of the reason why I like the trim.

Without all the trim, like a Scottsdale, these trucks just look like a solid colored blob without anything to help offset and break up the sections of sheetmetal. These trucks seem to have just so much sheetmetal, they just look naked without anything to break it up a little, IMHO.

Well, I for one switch between my '81 K30 and my 2001 Dodge Ram Cummins everyday. I'll put 100 miles in the AM on my K30, then switch at lunch time and put another 100miles on my Ram in the afternoon.

With doing that and being able to compare an "old school" 1 ton truck to a "new school" 1 ton rig (ok, my ram is a 3/4, but it's close enough) I would have to definantly disagree.

My Dodge is just as tough as my K30, if not tougher. The newer automatics make my Th400 in my 30 look fairly light duty, and the engine choice is a mute point, a 454 vs. a hopped up Cummins.

The best thing to compare is ergonomics between new and old school. While I can cruise with one hand on the wheel in my K30, my Dodge has a tighter steering system than my K30, and it has more miles on it to boot. The A/C and ventalation systems have come along way, my Ram holds 1.875 lbs of R134A and hits 40.1* with an outside temp of 106*. My K30 holds 3lbs of R12 and it couldn't hit 40.1* on an 85* day, not to mention how strong the blowers are.

Seats, I've got a standard issue crew cab bench in my K30 3+3, I've got leather buckets in my Ram that are heated..... I don't think I need to continue there....

fourwheel drive! I would definantly say my Ram has a better designed 4wd system. Both use a D60, so nothing has been compromised there, bigger driveshafts ( I think the Dodges use 1410's in the rear, IIRC), and uses a much better transfer case than for all intents and purposes, the dinosaur NP205 in my K30 (close your gasping mouth and hear me out:haha: ) My Ram has an NP241HD case with a 2.72:1 low range, my NP205 is a 2:1 box. 2:1 is flat out a sucky low range. Sure sure, it's cast iron and all...... There are 1000HP sled pulling Dodges out there using their aluminum 241's without problems, the case being alum is just not an issue, and helps it be lighter! That cast iron 205 only matters if you are going to smash it on a big rock, which will never be an issue with 99.9% of the 4wd vehicles out there, I know I won't get my $30K worth of Dodge diesel near a rock big enough to hit my case on!:eek1:

For all intents and purposes, my "new school" rig could put a whuppin' on my "old school" rig.
