1993 3/4 Ton Suburban Build (Solid Axle Swap)

So that's a 33" tire.
I have the same on my suburban now

Correct, right at about a 33" tire. My thought on the crew cab was that it's mainly a tow rig, so with 4.10's and 33's, plus with the gearing of the NV4500 and the power the 8.1 puts out, that is should still tow real well but have a good stance too. Which was correct as the thing hauls real well in that current setup. Plus, I can swap the 35's onto the crew cab if I want, And also, if I am going to tow with the suburban, I'll just put the 33's from the crew cab on there to help with gearing.

Better train your boys to act as a pit crew so they can do all your tire swapping for you.

My suburban does decent with those tires 4.10 and a tired 350tbi for towing.
It's awesome just on its own

I can't believe you guys don't have any snow up there.

Literally just on Saturday it warmed up and it melted away at my house and in the Treasure Valley. February we got a bunch of snow and the mountains got hammered. I guess there is another storm rolling in tonight through mid-week though. We went skiing two weeks ago and it was freaking fantastic :waytogo:

Oh and please change your mirrors soon.

He needs the mirrors like what are on my crew cab.

You know, I'm now going back and forth on weather I want to put the larger tow mirrors on this thing. Since it won't be primarily a tow rig, and will mainly be a camping/mountain rig, I'm not sure I want larger mirrors on this thing to get hung up on trees and such. I was thinking of maybe just buying those cheap "extensions" you can bolt on and off the stock mirrors that I keep in the back to put on when I do tow with this thing on occasion. We'll see what I end up doing. I still don't like that the stock mirrors are white. My brother has an extra set of GMT400 stock mirrors off a Tahoe that are black that he said he would mail me if I wanted to swap them out to black ones....I'm contemplating just doing that.

Nice. I drove the suburban around my house, just getting up to 45 mph or so (still have some things to iron out on brakes, so didn't get crazy, haha), but even with 3.73's in the back and the 35's, the high mileage TBI454 doesn't feel too bad on acceleration. I eventually will do some power adders to this thing, but for now it's not horrible at all

Yeah when I got my suburban it had 33" tires with the 3.73 gears, it did ok but towing it was a dog.
I broke the pinion gears on the rear 10 bolt so I put a 14bff 4.10 and stock 31" 265/75/16 on stock 8 lug rims and it became a monster in comparison. I had to get new tires though because they had no traction and I got these tires for the same price as stock size. Now I am happy it's peppy but not a dog when I occasionally tow with it.
And I agree black stock mirrors, heck you could just paint yours black.

Love the looks of that Burb, makes me want to find one to fix up and SAS instead of spending the cash for a brand new one...

If you're looking for a brake upgrade for that Ford axle you can always check out the WFO brackets that let you use the newer slip on rotors and 2 piston calipers off a Duramax truck. I just used one on my snow fighter axle that's waiting to go under my K5, was pretty simple (other than needing to machine the hubs down a bit) and should make future maintenance a breeze. Food for thought anyways.

Thanks! When you look at how much I have into this thing, it's pretty crazy. Even with the cost to purchase the vehicle and everything I've done to it (purchase axle and all parts for sas, tires/wheels, exhaust, etc), I'm $6500 into this thing as it sits. When you really look at that, for what this thing is now and what it's capable off, that is crazy cheap. I'd take this thing as it sits over a newer vehicle anyday, but that's just me.

That's something to think about for sure on the brake upgrade for the front. I'll have to take a look at those, thanks for the tip :waytogo:
