once i get the timing straight hopefully it will be alot better

but your towing with a 454 right??i know plenty of people towing with a 6.0 getting 11I really feel like I'm raining on your parade in this thread but I seriously doubt you'll get 10mpg towing a fullsize truck with that setup...
I just towed my k10 (full bodied still) with some tools and misc. stuff on a 20' wood deck tandem axle trailer and I was getting 8 the whole time.
I've researched this ever since I got this truck and it seems like the best bang for the buck on these vortecs is intake/exhaust and a good tune (give justin at blackbear a call)... the MAF sensors and stuff like throttle body spacers work too but not as great of a bang for your buck...
i think its more than possible to get 10mpg out of a 5.7 vortec because my ex g/fs dad was getting 12 pulling a 30 foot camper behind a sub...its definitley possible for a 5.7 but not a 7.4You're jumping generations though... BIG difference between the old 5.7 and 7.4L vortecs and the "new" 5.3 and 6.0L...
One of my boss' drives a 2500hd with the 6.0L... peppy little sucker btw... it loves to be wound up and pulls hard 3,000+ where as my 7.4L is only happy in the 2,000-3,000rpm range...
