this is my first build thread, i didnt do one for the k5-i should have

as some of you may have seen. i have a crew cab. i got a good deal on it, and it has been my dd off and on for awhile. originally this was going to be my new wheeler. but plans changed and now this truck will have to do it all.
daily driver
tow/hauler
snow wheeler

it needs some paint as you can see. but its low mileage, runs really well, well maintained by the goverment, and has no options.

orig specs.
tbi350-sm465-205-60/14b 3.73s. open.
here are some pics of when i got it.

cut the fenders and installed some 11.0x16 michelins
i cut about 9" off the rear of the inner fenders, basically all the way up to the bolts that hold the iner panelto the cab.
the front of the inners i just beat with a bfh. and voila' no lift 38"s
turns out that the offset of the wheels is perfect and no steering stop adjustment was needed. they dont rub the drag link.
i also had to massage the rear wheel wells with a hammer to keep em from rubbing
old pics, i will put the new ones up in a minute

I like it!

So is there a down side to cutting the inner fender that far up?
Will it let water splash and junk get thrown up in areas it wouldn't go usually with normal driving?

the only thing i see is that water and such will be able to splash against the cab. which in those states where rust is a prolem, that might lead to some floor/cab rust in the future.
some undercoating or maybe some sort of mudflap that covers it would be best. other than that i dont see a problem.
thats why i just beat the f--k out of the front of the inners, instead of cutting them, so the engine compartment wouldnt be open to junk coming in there.

LOVE it.

Looks so freaking cool with the tires on there.

Goes to show its easy to fit big tires on our pigs :D

You should check out this build, The guy runs the same tires as you and extended his fenders to fit them, it's a dodge but it still looks pretty trick...

Kepp up the good work man it looks sharp.

well... jumped in the truck this morning turned the key... engine cranked.... and cranked... but no start. dammit! so a little quick thinking...so i decide to switch to the left fuel tank. crank.... fires right up. ok so it probably needs a new right side fuel pump. too bad i just filled the right tank yesterday:doah:and the left tank is at 1/8:doah:
called my supplier and a new delphi fuel pump is $35. i can deal with that.

so maybe the valve isnt working? the guage reads right. so most likely not. i will have to fire up the test light tomorrow at work and see.

some other stuff-

i took it on the freeway for the first time yeterday after installing the 38s. found out 3rd gear is useless. you have to be going over about 60 to use it, untill you hit a hill. then back to 2nd.

i was planning to install the overdrive first, then throw gears in it, but after some math, i would only be spinning 2800rpm at 60 with 5.38s. so gears and lockers will have to be next. that way atleast i will be able to tow with it again.

i sold the cowl hood. it fit like poop. you couldnt bolt the springs to it, so a prop was needed. also that friggin thing is way heavier than a stock steel one. so i put the gmc hood on.

i might just order 2 fuel pumps tomorrow. just do both and get it over with.

My truck is supposed to "do it all" as well. It just doesn't haul heavy loads, tow, get good mileage, ride nice and it's not easy for everyone to get in. lol Keep us updated with your progress.

got some paint work done. i did the doors just to make the truck look better, even though im not keeping them. the rt bed side is done. i just have a couple dings to repair. also did the roof. damn that was alot of sanding. a cclb has alot of sheet metal.
the last pic is the new hood instead of the cowl induction pos

are you going to do any more trimming to the front fenders, or leave em like that?
