1BEATK5's "does it all" crew cab build

2200 at 60 is too many rpms for a cummins, you should be shooting for more like 1800-1900, I spin around 1950 or so at 70mph in my 00 and average 20mpgs unloaded and still pull 16 or so towing 8k. My truck is lifted 2" with metric 33's and weighs in at 7280 last time it was on the scales. With a mild build and the proper gear ratio you should be able to get an easy 14 mpgs towing MINUMUM, 12valves when set up properly should get better mileage then my 24 valve, and if running a manual trans you should do better then my auto as well. :D

i was more generalizing. my 6bt with nv4500/4.10s/35s got 16 all the time. and 12ish towing 9500lbs. an intercooler probably would have helped, but i never got around to installing one.

im also thinking a 6bt swap wont be more than a 383 build. its the nv4500 part is going to be where the $ will be spent.

lil update

sold it!

im bummed as all hell. but i want to go wheeling. the k5 has been in the garage for wayyy too long.
i made money off of it. kept the michelins. now my brother will be a happy guy with his new dependable truck. i can also borrow it at any time. he is really surprised that i sold it.

he has some plans for it. the gray/blue camo theme, a winch and some 35s. it should look pretty good. i requested that he doesnt use the bed since its friggin perfect. he agreed to that.

so look for a "stage 2" build thread for my k5 as it goes from bad boy dd material, to serious wheeler. i will have some money, and since it getting to be summer, i will have the means to make it happen before winter hits.

Im back in a square body....so Let's try this some more with a different truck. This will be more of a camping and towing truck now though. No wheeling.

90 V30. 454/465 3.73s. Manual everything. It needs a few things, but drove 200 miles. Got a new joint. Then another 100 miles. Not bad.

It has a few oddities. The bed isn't original. It has srw hubs in the front. The outer rear wheels don't match each other. The front seat looks to be from a ford. But has the Chevy seat belts and brackets. It's a 90 but has the old mechanical speedo.

Also, the guy was telling me that the blazer/burb rear bumper was original? Never seen that before

It's sitting about 20 ft from mine.

It has 285/75s on it now. Usually has a trailer hooked to the back, Or a load of hay. Otherwise it's pretty much the same

That is the last of the Mohicans right? 90 was the last year for this body CC wasn't it?? Nice truck.. Someone fine me a SRW version of this and Ill scoop it up..

91 was the last year. I looked fora 91 with an auto because it's the only one with the 4l80e. But no dice. So I found one with a 4spd.

According to the rpo codes. This wasn't a dually originally. That explains some stuff.
I'm having some driveability issues. It runs good. But over 1/2 throttle nothing happens. It just makes noise and has some random misfiring. I bought a fuel filter and a new distributer. Hope to get those in today. They didn't have the wires I wanted so I will have to wait on those a couple days.
I forgot how cheap parts are for these. A brand new dizzy was only $80 with my discount. $12 for 2 fuel filters.
I changed the oil and put the dump truck oil filter on. Which adds a quart to the oil system.

A radio and some speakers are on the list for today too

I miss having cab lights. Looks sweet at night

For now I need to get it reliable. Ditch the front lift blocks. Make it turn right. That kind of stuff

But future plans I think it will have to get a cummins. Fuel mileage and dead reliable is my goal. I want to be able to put a camper on it. Drive to the middle of nowhere and camp for a few days. While towing the jeep.

Some minor updates. I've have alot of projects that get priority.

My steering wheel I move from truck to truck

A radio and some new speakers

Car trailer to tow. Got it cheap.

Next will be a new hitch. The current one is scary. Rewire the trailer harness. Just some little stuff so I can tow the trailer
