2 frames

Oh its been done, and is as ghetto as could be. but if you into backwoods inbreed 4x building, have at it :D.

i was talking about the rails stacked w/no space between them...not like stilts i.e. each body mount raised....a whole frame touching and attached....why wouldn't it be solid? maybe some x memberrs

Thing is it'd be hard to make it as strong as one frame... I suppose if you stripped everything off the top frame and could get it to perfectly "spoon" the bottom frame, and welded it all the way down both frame rails, then *theoretically* it would be pretty strong.

If you're gonna try getting that much body lift, why not cut off your body mounts and make some new Uber-strong ones that are higher than the originals. Then weld them onto the frame in the original location. They'd need to be BEEFY though. At that point I'd also look into boxing the entire frame to make everything as strong as possible.

Disclaimer: I'm not suggesting anyone do this, just that it may be a better solution for that much body lift compared to stacking frames...but then again isn't everything a better solution???

Realistically, if I were wanting that much body lift, I'd get a custom tube frame built with raised body mounts.

seen it, cant picture why anyone would want to do it. it dangerous as ****

Fixed for you :deal:

Its not a good idea in the first place and almost everyone that has two frames stacked on top of each other does a very half-assed job of it.

My buddy did this to two seperate Ramchargers. 1st one he built years ago, had 44" mudders on 17" wide wheels. Don't really remember anything else about it. The 2nd one was a couple years ago. The top frame that attached the body, everything underneath was smoothed so it would be flat on the bottom frame. That frame had the motor, trans, etc in it. It was welded every foot or so, about a foot each weld. Was on 44s, cleared easy, then put 38s on it. Dont remember what the suspension was, but when he put the 38s on it, he took the lift off and put stock stuff on. I think it had a 3" B/L, so about 9" overall. He drove it around, guess it drove/handled great. Don't see why not, the suspension was basically stock, had a glorified B/L on it. Sold it, guy who bought it is happier than a pig in sh!t. Passed PA inspection too.....

Our rigs are heavy enough as they are,why would you want that extra unsprung weight on it?

There's a guy on here that runs 2 frames. He did it to run the big C60(??) front end. I'm not sure how safe or unsafe it is cause i've never personally seen it. Just from what i've heard it's not a good idea.

given there are a few other things i've heard of that are bad ideas but people still do it.

Are you planning on doing this?? just wonderin

Since I started reading on the interwebnet in 99 or so I remember coming across...somewhere...a tribute page to a large 70's Ford on beeg tires. Had THREE (yes, three, (3), 1+1+1 = 3) frames stacked with different things mounted to each frame and only the body to the top. Was like this 3' tall wall of metal under the body. Even at the time when I had visions of GM half ton IFS on 38's with 8" of lift I just wondered to myself...

...why not just put a regular lift on it?:doah:
