2 frames

If I had a body lift my **** would fall apart

I'm just trying to shed some light on "the other side of the story" that seems to so often be neglected.

Spoken like a true engineering student.

The "other side of the story" is the stubborn hillybilly frugality combined with having lots of scrap automobiles just laying around on your property. If someone is going to think double frames is an awesome idea, then they may have their own ideas on what a good weld is, how to set up gears, etc...not to mention it is this same mindset that thinks pressure treated lumber 4"x4"s makes good front lift blocks, rebar makes a good "custom" drag link, and that attaching anything that was formerly part of a wild animal's anatomy to a vehicle is a good decorative showpiece.

I just don't see what is so challenging to understand about swapping rear springs up front and using a shackle flip in the rear, then cutting sheet metal.

Also think about it this way: you go to look at a truck for sale. It has stacked frames. What do you do? Buy it? Unless it has a 1 ton drivetrain and is nearly free, I'm guessing you wouldn't.

I know where one is right now that has rotted away due to the fact that nobody will buy it because of the stacked frames.

I don't get this part...care to elaborate??

hahaha

i've seen people do this....when they kill a buck they tan his scrot/ball sack and put it on 4x shift handle or on the trailer hitch ball! now that is redneck, dont think i would want to touch my 4x shifter w/ deers fuzzy on it!

You ****in serious??? WOW!! I think of myself as countryfied but DAYUM!!

yea!!

seen quit a few people do it....sometimes when its on the hitch ball they don't even tan it...they cut the sac off and stretch it over the ball and let it dry and shrink fit the ball, has to stink there for awile, i'm sure...rotten smellin truck..eek

why not just cut all your spring perchs and move em down then box the frame beef everything up then if you still wanted it higher move your body mounts up prob just about the same fab work!

either way i think it ill be belly up if you do anything too wild:rolleyes:

Don't laugh, It is considered the coolest around here! I might have even had one that way myself. Makes the shifter knob nice & soft.

that could work, but in my case it would mess up my driveline angles and raise my CG. and if you think its weak watch my videos... (in my sig)

You raise a good point. I'm going to stop defending this now. You're probably right that anyone that had the resources to do this properly...well probably just wouldn't do this in the first place.

raising the body mounts wouldn't mess with the driveline angles, and although it would raise the CG more than a standard BL, it wouldn't add weight while doing so...unlike stacked frames.

But it would still be weaker than what I have.

There's a big difference between properly engineering something, and throwing so much material at it (and weight) until it's so massive that it won't break...

Actual *engineered* mounts could be as strong as you were willing to make them, using a fraction of the material of a second frame. If the weakness came from the frame itself, design (engineer) a new one out of some stout tubing and fab up the body mounts to suit your needs.

You know, you could've just used a whole medium duty truck instead of the front clip... It'd be strong too. Doesn't make it a good idea though. It'd weight 80 metric sh!t tons and sink as soon as it saw mud.

Mine is heavy but rocks in the mud. At least compared to the people I play with. so in short it works great for people with a short budget that like to play hard. I'm sure nasa could develop something lighter and stronger, but not on my budget.:haha:

It has nothing to do with budget and everything to do with not knowing how and/or not having the skills to build it stronger and lighter.

We've argued over this before and I stayed out of this post until know, but c'mon...
