2 wheel peel / rebirth of a short bed c-10

for me to make 9" work at this time =

gears 150-200 decent set
install kit 125ish timkin
axle bearings/retainers/seals/harware 125-150 for all
time to set all up in 3rd member = $$$ + time
brakes of some kind and get parts for all of it. few hundred bucks
redo axle pattern to 5x5 over 5x5.5 ford
and few other things.

trust me love to do 9" but need to budget time and money on this daily driver build. if my budy has a 10 or 12 bolt i can bolt in and freshin up brakes and new oil for lot less it gets me done faster.

heck i have close to if not over 7k in this now and not fired or painted yet.:doah:

got my adaptors from autometer today .

oil pressure is m16x1.50 thread to 1/8" pipe
h20 is m12x1.50 thread to 1/8" pipe
and short sensor for use with adaptor on coolent adaptor.

got oil temp plug/sensor ready showed pics before of that.

and i did get my motor mounts also. got to take them to work friday and blast/paint them up for this weekend i wana install them and the motor/tranny also.

I would just find something that works for now and keep on the lookout for what you want.

A 3.73 ten bolt shouldnt be that hard to find.

yep thats the plan .

and find one here in rust belt central ? hell i have prob 1/5th this style trucks in my area. none left much to say anything about. all rusted out and scraped.

If nothing else, regearing a ten bolt will be cheaper for not having to buy axles with different lug pattern.

i said screw it and decided to run the mounts for now. i GOT to keep moving forward or it will never get done.

painted up and hanging to dry friday .

sat bolted up tranny to motor for install.

then droped it all in place. just got to drill few holes to bolt in the 4x4 crossmember from a 1 ton frame as it sits more flat than 1/2-3/4 ton unit would . then i will make a mount tab to weld to it and bolt the tranny mount to that.

also called up a old buddy and seen if he had a extra rear axle in his collection of stuff for 1/ ton with decent gears. he said call him sunday for more info. called him today and he said he had a 6lug 12 bolt with 4.10 . then if i needed 5 lug shafts he had another 12 bolt axle under old pickup trailer we could grab them from. i said what the hell lets pop that cover and check. sure as sh!t clean oil and 4.10 gears with min play .

so i got a bolt in just clean up brakes 4.10 gear rear for this truck.

can anyone say 300hp stock and 4l60e with 4.10 gears going to be fun

28" tire

4.10 gears

300hp stock

low first in the 4l60e

should be way to much fun.

3rd gear 35mph = 1725 rpm
4th gear 35mph = 1200 rpm

3rd gear 45 mph = 2215 rpm
4th gear 45 mph = 1550 rpm

3rd gear 65 mph = 3200 rpm
4th gear 65 mph = 2250 rpm

good #'s in my book for what i wana use it for.

also scored this today on another site used.

this will look much better under the hood for sure :eek1:

pic #1 = now / before

pic #2 = after trail blazer ss cover swap. covers up a lot more stuff and i think looks better than car covers .

pic #3 = cover on trail blzer ss

just got to pull the 6.0 badge off that was stuck on it. not stock to cover.

also badge in center back has GM performance division on it.

also found this in the garage today . forgot i had it . perfect its a 4 port. 1 inlet up to 3 outlets. going to get plumbed in to the front and tee'd off to each wheel as i needed a tee fitting anyways . pic #4  just the line lock not the switch .

well update time.

got some gas filler neck's and pair of tank brackets for pass side from member bsgreen :thumb:

got the brackets cleaned up what little thay needed. then painted them up and bolted them on and painted them shut to the frame just like the otherside. help seal out the crap best possible .

then during the week i cleaned / super course grit scotch bright pad scuffed both new and reused tanks . wiped down with thinner for any loose crap left or grease from making the tank .

then got 3 big cans of transtar quickdry rubberized under coating . ( fyi 1 can barly got 1 short bed truck tank covered thats why 3 cans ) both tanks come out lookin real GOOD .

also got the 4wd 1 ton older style flat crossmember for tranny bolted in and then made riser to match up to the 2wd tranny mount. then removed the whole setup and painted it also .

got the line lock / anti roll bolted in place behind the front cross member and also got 1 line to lf hose made and installed. got to make store run for more line nut's and also rf hose needed yet. ( long story :doah: ) then going to rebolt the rear brake hose bracket to left side frame rail to get shorter / cleaner line system on truck .

STORY TIME : the long hard road to a right front brake hose .

1 time i was looking to clean up / reto mod my 2wd truck and needed new brake hoses . so off to the local parts store and ordered up what i needed as thay dont stock these anywere around here these days do to rusted out and gone mostly.

well day or so later i go pick up the hoses and get to the shop and unbox and check basic style and shape of hose's all looked good. so i get the lf hose on and tweeked a bit due to new 2.5" drop spindles caliper reposition to keep it off the upper ball joint no biggy . then i go to rf hose and notice new style caliper end . go and try to fit it on the caliper and it wont fit any way i can try it. get to looking and way off on style and no way it will fit. rest of the hose is perfect.

o.k. figure just made wrong goof up. he orders me a new hose again. still wrong end. then we try diffrent shipping center out of his area support and see what we get. even called on phone . shipped in and looks good . then i get to the shop and still wont fit the right direction . find out its a left hose in a right box. :doah::doah::doah:

so now he has 5 hoses 4 wrong end and 1 wrong side to return to his suport center. we called HQ and got the brake specialist and he is looking in to this problem and i ven sent him a pic of lf hose mounted so he can see why its wrong . also the online and store pic's show the correct hose . so this was what was getting use to think we need to call HQ.

so monday or tusday we should know what is going on . and fyi there is few stores in town and thay all are supplyed by same brand just in diffrent bag/box so if i ordered theres it would be wrong also more than likly.

ah the joy's of a 15 doller hose  fyi i should have just called ord and got set of braided ss lines made for few bucks more but oh well.

1 ton short drop flat 84 older 4wd tranny / tcase cross member bolted in and i made a little foot for the 2wd mount to bolt to.

not the best lookin but should hold just fine. nice & thick stuff burned in good n hot.

stock would have been 1 bolt to mount. energy suspension gives 3 holes . so i went 2 outer holes with the bolts .
