The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Either that or you ran low on fluid. 
Fluid level is fine. No burnt smell. No metal in the fluid. I’m lost honestly.
If it gets too hot it won’t allow OD.
That's what my brother and I were talking about. He said he would look at getting a larger aftermarket cooler, and that the 2wd trans is probably fine.
I think you missed part of the story. I was towing a very heavy enclosed trailer loaded with camping gear for 40 people for 5.5 hours when the trans overheated.

AAAAnd the springs are ordered! 
Bought this today. Going to replace all my aftermarket gauges and mount this one up top. Picked it up for $85. It’ll do EGT, Boost, trans temp, and any other gauges I need it to. Just have to program them in. I’m glad I don’t have to run all the pods now. Plus it will scan and clear codes on the fly.
