2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
While I am waiting to find some different front springs, I decided to start cleaning up the axle and swapping on the new parts.

Popped the diff cover last night to find some very good condition fluid. Everything inside looks great. Ball joints are going in this week, and hopefully the wheel bearings this weekend. Then the axle is ready enough to go under for some clearance checking.

Going to go ahead and leave the weaker springs in it for now in order to check for clearance and articulate the axle.

I have one that needs a rebuild kit. I just need to get the rebuild kit and tear it apart. I do appreciate the offer though! :waytogo:

As for springs, I will be looking for a 3 pack 3/4 or 1 ton springs. Or I will be going the route of buying new ones from generalspringkc.com

But either way, I want the springs flat or just a hair on the positive side.

You need 2" lift springs then. I looked at my burb which is a running driving half ton 6.2 springs are 2 leaf negative arch.

Looked at my 86 one ton ,no engine or trans, it's 3 leaf it's still in a negative arch position with nothing in it.

Looked at my other one ton 454 it's springs look maybe 1/2" less negative arch than the burb but still negative arched.

Then I looked at the 3 leaf pack I have that are out. They are almost dead flat just sitting there.

I think to get dead flat I would get a 2.5" lift spring. It seems on most trucks that is a dead flat spring.

Well Craig in Neb. is going to hook me up with a set of 1 ton springs. So I will throw those in and see what happens. Even just the "factory" negative arch is ok. I can clearance what ever I need to.

Thanks for the info :waytogo:.

Good I didn't wanna see you spending money on new springs and em not working out.

Thanks. I was going to try every way possible to do some "guess and check" work. This needs to be as low as possible to keep a somewhat stock look. I don't want a crawler...........yet.

I've got a 3 leaf pack out of a half ton for my sas. Might end up slipping a leaf in if I have to after seeing your situation.

Atleast you don't have to deal with that big ugly crossmember the k series have.

Mostly likely gonna be getting creative when I do mine instead of just putting a lift spring in like most do.

These are the springs I am picking up tonight. They have about the same arch as the 2 leaf pack I tried first, but with more weight holding capacity. I have a lot of faith that these ones will work way better.

As for the cross member, the 4x4 cross member is at least out of the way. This 2wd x-member sits right were the pumpkin is, so there will most likely be a lot of cutting.

Can't believe I've missed this build for this long! Looks good so far is going to be even better with the 60 under there :saweet:

My next truck I've already started collecting parts for. Truck is a '91 GMC K2500 350/sm465 (the annoying "tight shift pattern" version). I already have the 78 ford 60 and 4.88 gears, just need the time and motivation:doah:
