2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Sometimes I wonder why I do all this. Lol

So Wednesday night we got some ice and a little snow. My wife stayed home since schools and daycares were closed. I decided to drive her Tahoe because it's nice and the 4x4 works great.

Fast forward to last night, I tried to start my diesel to make sure it wasn't gel'd up. Silly me for thinking it would start. So now I get to start the diag process to figure out why it's so hard to start when it's cold.

I put a post on the 6.5 Turbo Diesel page on FB, and got all sorts of answers. Everything from my new starter is bad, to low compression and my engine needs replaced.

So my thinking is, I most likely have a lot of small issues that all mount up to no success on cold start ups. I'm just going to start chipping away at the list of possible issues, obviously starting with the cheapest.

With the new springs going under this weekend, I need to get this issue resolved. It's the only thing that keeps this from being 100% reliable.

But on a good note, the power steering leak on the Harley truck self-remedied. I guess when it was in the air for the oil change a seal popped out when I turned it to lock on the RH side. Once I turned it lock to lock after it was on the ground the seal popped back in.

Text me some video footage of your cold starting process. It's hard for me to imagine your truck not starting in Kansas with the block heater running. Would be a walk in the park if everything was working properly.

Glow Plugs + Cranking + Fuel delivery + Compression = not much that can go wrong. Crummy fuel, bad injectors/IP/PMD, slow cranking, low compression, burned-out glow plugs...there really aren't many other options. :dunno:

Funny my brothers 6.5 won't start below 30 as well, even with the block heater. I am not sure if his block heater actually works though. The wiring for his glow plus are all jacked up, and not sure even if he tested his glow plugs. 6.5 problems I guess.

I'll see what I can do. I'm not very coordinated haha.

This was my thinking. It really is a simple system. Find the weak or missing link and correct it.

Some good diag tools and a free Saturday should be able to remedy the situation.

My blazer won't start very well this year now with the cold weather unless its plugged in. I suspect bad glow plugs but haven't bothered checking it yet. I just drive it maybe once a month on a warm day and plug it in the night before.
