2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Keep in mind that land rovers go overlanding, toyotas go on expeditions and when you drive a chevy it's OK to just call it camping.
I used my '03 dually with a full cabover and bumper pull trailer for a couple years and it worked just fine. With mod'd Dmax. Mine has a flatbed which made the camper system WAY more usable with tons of extra storage space. Mine is also an 8 foot camper so it doesn't hang over the back of the bed and the trailer hitch is just like on a regular truck. A popup camper on a flatbed could make a really nice offroady-er system just being more compact and lower profile.
I think you're going to be short on power with a camper and K5 on a trailer but smaller tires and decent gearing will help. As will reasonable expectations. We did a set of front springs for a guy recently that were only an inch or so of lift that would probably work out perfect to keep ride height reasonable and wind resistance down and thus help the power situation too.
I really like that platform and often wish our '99 SAS truck was a crewcab so I could haul my family with it.

I may give you a shout on the front springs then. It's been crossing my mind lately to have some custom ORD springs made for the front. For both reasons of keeping it low, and keeping a quality ride.

As for power, I will be doing a handful of upgrades. More than I'd like to go into. But I will end up in the HP/Torq range of a factory Duramax. Without sacrificing too much reliability.

intrigued I am.

Just check out Heathdiesel.com or ssdiesel.com or leroydiesel.com tons of factory type upgrades. By that I mean, fixing factory issues that help with fuel usage and efficiency. Also helping with boost curve, and more consistent boost throughout the entire RPM range. Very cool stuff on dem enternets.

Oh. I guess the way you wrote it I thought it was super secret dieselly stuffs. Just the same old shit I already want.
I really want to bump up my power a bit but the thing works so good for my uses right now I don't want to mess with it. Which is very unlike me.

NO, no secrets here.

Right now, mine is a daily driver. It hauls my 2 sons to daycare, and my fat arse to work just fine :thumb:

The upgrades are for this summers adventures. And keep in mind, all these things I want done are all with a 65-70mph towing goal. I don't need to break any land speed records. I want reliability and efficiency.

I'm in the same boat with my 6.2 (which is slower yet). I have several things I could do to increase power. But I'm happy enough with it that I haven't ever bothered. I even have a turbine setup sitting in a box. But I still haven't gotten around to installing it because I'm not yet convinced that I want to lose the significant amount of real estate that it would consume. I guess I'll hafta get dissatisfied with the 6.2 before I'd bother modding it.

I must be easy to please.

Well I will say this. My dad and brother ruined me.

My last tow rig has me ruined also. The last tow rig was an 01 2500HD with the 8.1. It towed amazing. Now that the truck is gone, I use my dad's 2012 3500HD Denali to tow with. I have a very misguided perception of what a tow vehicle is. I am trying to slow it down a bit while towing, and trying to get back to enjoying the journey just as much as the destination.

If your bench seat will bolt into a single cab I have a good home for it. Our '99 bench has the edge totally worn out and probably just needs to be replaced. It was actually done when we got it at 65K miles so I'm guessing the ski area employees with this truck were short dudes and slid/fell out of the truck every time.

I will keep that in mind. It would be this spring when I tackle that portion. I will let you know.
