2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
SAS all the none SAS'd things!

No. Most definitely not.

Some things were not meant to have a solid axle.

And don't forget the 95% of CK5 members who have rigs that came with solid axles from the factory. We have no need for that SAS stuff. :deal:

:rotfl:

That's understandable. IDIs do have that effect.

You could be like Greg and SAS an IDI. Then you'd have the best of both worlds. :deal: :D

Not to continue this derailment buuuuut, it's getting one! Super duty coil sprung axle is currently laying in my '78 K20 just need some brackets that were torched by the salvage yard

Oh and a turbo, turbos make everyone happier

I thought about running a Super 60 and going with coils, but that was too much fab work for me. My brother is going to be using one though. He's going to build and HD out of the same year range. Gonna be pretty cool.

One good thing about a 90's ford is they bolt on, I'm cheating lol

I've actually got two of them for less than a grand total.

But I'll quit jabbering now get to work

Mounted up the 285's yesterday. It's already helping with the look of the truck. I then worked on figuring out the ride height. I did have to raise the front a couple inches, so now the rear is about and inch higher. If it gets any higher, I we definitely have to run bags in the rear for towing.

I then pulled the 2 leaf packs and swapped bushings. Today will be front spring installation and then placing the axle underneath.

And a good before and after shot. Really shows some progress.

So today's findings.

Springs still aren't enough.

I think @blazinzuk is right, I think I need a 2" lift spring. The only thing I am worried about with a 2" lift spring, is the overall height. Any more input on this?

2" taller = 2" less nose-divey. And this truck does (did?) need that pretty badly. Not sure if 2" is the right answer. I think only you in person can make that call, 2D pictures of 3D geometries lead to all sorts of confusion (as I proved above with my attempt at math). If you're not happy with where you're at, you could also try a zero-rate in the front. I think if you get springs that have permanent positive arch to them you will wind up significantly taller than you are now. Is that what you want?

What about an obs ford f350 spring or a superduty spring to match your axle? They handle plenty of weight and sit flat. It will end up still being pretty high I'm sure. I don't know the length specs.

if you have extra leafs just add more factory together . . . more than 3 be o.k. as there tapered leaf and work harder the more there flexed from the ends in to the center.

maybe 2 4-5 leaf packs like this and a zero rate .
