So...timing is everything, eh? I was looking through my empty engine bay tonight and found the main power wire feeding the fuse block had torn off the starter lug. So...I'm going to be taking that circuit apart anyway. And the wire has seen better days. And access is super easy right now...

1/0 wire isn't as pricey as I had been thinking, either. The main wire is only 5 feet or so. The crossover wire is about 7 feet.

I went out and took some actual measurements. Main starter wire is about 5 feet, crossover wire is also 5 feet (I forgot it's not going across the full width of the truck, just from battery to battery). The two ground wires are 2.5' each, so an even 15 feet of wire should replace all four segments with a few inches to spare. $43 shipped for 1/0 AWG pure copper wire, plus a few bucks for new connectors. And 40 pounds of solder.

This sounds very doable.
