2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Man I have some bad luck going on right now. Found my pump issues have been caused by my fuel tank lining starting to deteriorate and peel. Crap plugging my filter and who knows what else. So now I get to replace my recently filled fuel tank along with cleaning out the rest of the fuel system and seeing if I still need to replace my injection pump. Glad I saw that now instead of possibly killing another IP.

This stuff came out of the bleeder valve while checking for air in the lines today.

Which made me pull the filter and see this crap.

So I took a peek down in the filter housing to see it full of more crap. Not good.

Ford has had that issue in the last few years. I believe it is something about ULSD causing the tanks to loose there galvanized coating. Seen it a lot on powerstrokes and F550s. The last one I did I just got a factory replacement plastic tank from Titan but that's cuz I was in Idaho and the local Ford dealer we bought parts from also owned Titan Tanks.

Sorry to drag this up...but are these the springs we've been talking about? Just wondering...

Edit: just read more of the thread, and I answered my question, haha. I think those will work good on my burban as I won't care as much about overall ride quality for the uses of my burb :waytogo:

Yep that’s them. I don’t think the ride quality was a s bad as I thought due to my shocks. My Alcans felt stiff with my other shocks, so I’m betting those oldnsprings would be decent.

Started the tank swap Saturday afternoon. 2 of the bed bolts fought me. 1 broke, and I had to cut the other one. Got to that point and ran out of daylight. Sunday after lunch I got some help and pulled the bed back. Then I started the slow process of draining the tank while filtering the fuel. Tonight I am going to try to drain the rest of the tank and drop it.

Got about 20 gallons tonight. The hoses I have tried keep curling in the tank, so it’s not able to reach the bottom. May try pulling the sending unit and pumping it through the top.

Using the old lift pump that I thought was bad to pump this stuff out. Working great.

This is a small portion of the debris that is being filtered out before it goes in the cans. I will be filtering it again before I pour it into the new tank.

Clip some vice grips on the end of the hose to weigh it down, or zip tie on some nuts/metal scraps. It'll be a lot easier through the sending unit hole though. You gotta pull it anyway for the new tank .

Every time I look at your build I have this little bit of regret not picking up a diesel. LS is awesome but rattle box diesel is awesome too.
