The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.

Truggin right along, I did about 250 miles yesterday going 70+ and over a mountain pass twice and got 18.4 mpg. Never had a hiccup, though the abs module has a loose wire somewhere...

Worked for a few hours tonight.
Tank is in and topped back off. Inspected the old one and got the best shot of the delamination as I could.
Found the wires on the bottom of the fuel filter housing have been chewed on and copper is exposed. Going to test that heater tomorrow to make sure it works, then wrap it with some heat shrink.
Then I will blow the lines out and clean everything I can before putting it back together.
Also, lifted trucks get old to work on.

Do you actually use that fuel heater? I understand the concept, but the fuel grades have changed so much since our trucks were made. I haven't yet had an issue with my unheated fuel filters, even at -20*F.

Heater works fine. Small trail of smoke coming off when I hooked up the power probe. Going to heat shrink the exposed wires and move on.
Pump inlet screen had a small amount of debris in it. Cleaned it out and looks pretty good now.
Taking my time and making sure I am learning from this experience has me feeling like I’m doing something right lol. Time to put it all back together.

Old housing cleaned and wires wrapped. Truck is all back together minus a broken vacuum line and needing to warranty the lift pump (I don’t want to take any chances with debris or damage). Headed off to ride the Polar Express then maybe finish it up tonight.
Why no plastic tank?
My cost at work for one was about a 1/4th of what a plastic tank was. Also, the one from my work carries a lifetime warranty as well.
Oh fine be frugal and all that grown up stuff.

Well I did something right. It runs. Still having some timing issues, which was expected since the pump was starved for so long. Still going to diag from this point now that I know the fuel system is working properly.
