2001 Jeep Cherokee, no longer cheapbeater

Cherokees are my favorite budget beater. The late model ones are the best. I have had several, all straight 6's and they all went way past 200,000 miles. Sold my last one at 225,000 about 5 years back and I still see it running around. Should have kept it.

I’m to the point where I rarely sell things. I end up missing it basically every single time!

Is that the one with the fragmented piston? :1zhelp:

The black one I’m pillaging for parts had cylinder #3 explode. Found parts of that piston laying on top of the other 5 cylinders somehow

You three need to move over here.

I can think of alot of better things to spend money on then a Jeep Cherokee

Eh, they’re cheap and reliable with tons of aftermarket support. Can’t touch a 73/87 in decent shape for what I’m finding cherokees for, id feel bad beating up my 70’s iron

And I have zero shame in that fact. I’ll be that old fart that says “I’m gonna fix that up someday”

I used to be like you. But you know what I wound up missing? The wonderful feeling of having a clean space, uncluttered by worthless parts. I'm more picky now, and the scrap trailer has become my friend.

Luckily storage space is not something I lack. So I do have that going for me

Have you seen the ls swap stuff Novak does? They fit so nice and look factory. I'd love to do a Cherokee with a 5.3 just to see how fun it is to drive.

My buddy used a lot of their stuff for his 5.3 swap, and ended up having to do a lot of extra fab to make it work. Also, the radiator is no where near good enough to cool it.

I’m with Greg the cooling system isn’t really big I’d be nervous shoving that much engine in there. When the blue 2000’s engine was apart I toyed with a 318 swap. Id rather have a 5.3 but the 318 install worked well in the couple I found and all of the factory electronics were able to talk with it so it almost seemed factory

Dug the Ramsey out of storage. The way it’s built may work into my bumper planning. Gonna have to do some figuring

Yeah I've heard novaks stuff ain't great and I wondered about cooling also. I had a 318 powered Grand Cherokee that was fun. Awd with the v8 was great in the snow.

@78K30, you said this has an NV3550? Not an AX15?

Yes sir, 2000 and 2001 Jeep switched the cherokees over to the NV3550 instead of the AX15. Its pretty much a wash except for slightly higher input torque rating and little better gear spread. Another bonus to the NV3550/AX15 is that if I ever feel the need I can run a 3800 V6 by using the Jeep 2.5L bellhousing from an AX5
