2001 Jeep Cherokee, no longer cheapbeater

New meats came in. Figured instead of 31’s I’d be greedy and went for some 32x11.50’s instead. It definitely looks better even if they hit EVERYTHING.

Gonna have to trim a little and build some bump stops back here also

And the angle grinder came out to make some room. Just got done ordering some longer bumpstops for the front and some universal ones for the rear so I can build extended bumps at the back. Ignore the line on the fender that’s just dust left over from the flares

And a shot with my helper who is almost always present

Now that the dogs have run around and burnt off some energy I’ll likely head back home and get to work on the exhaust. The old cherry bomb is completely blown out but luckily the cat and forward is intact

Is that so lucky? Some folks like having no cat.

Well since the Jeep has no actual muffler I’m relying on the 3 cats (yes three) to keep it quiet-ish. Drove it around some with a buddy and it’s much quieter than I expected. I’ll post some exhaust pictures in the morning when it’s light enough to actually get good ones

I had one once that I trimmed to the fender flare outline. It worked. Also I have seen the TJ flares used on them but I don't like that look.

I’ve actually got an idea for flares that involves my tube bender and tieing them into the bumpers and sliders at both end when I get that far. Harvest is really knocking on the door for us so I think I’m gonna just toss the factory front bumper I have on it to get it more legal. I drove it to town and back today and it almost handles just like it did on the 235/15’s so I’m happy as hell.

Couple pictures of the exhaust after getting it wrapped up. Need to weld a crack at the manifold connection yet but that’ll wait until the front axle gets swapped out since the driveshaft is in the way. Anyway on to the pics

Surprisingly it’s very quiet inside with just the cats to act as mufflers. With the windows up the exhaust note can barely be heard and I love driving this thing now. Night and day difference in fun between this one with the 5speed and my 2000 with an auto

What? You guys aren't in the field yet? What the hell you waiting for? We are two weeks in....

Most of our beans are still leafed out and the corn is at 17.5, so instead of throwing money away having the coop dry it we let it stand until it’s dry. I can’t wait to get a bin at home someday so we don’t have to wait.

I've been telling you that for years...

I’ve alwyas enjoyed driving stuff with manual transmissions. The only things I own that are auto now is my 2013 and the blue Jeep. After driving this I don’t think the 4.0 is as much of a gutless turd as I originally thought. My blue one with an auto has zero balls, the 5 speed really makes the 4.0’s torque shine

Yeah I had a really wore out(280,000+) '89 Cherokee when I moved to Utah. Used at least a case of oil in 1,400 miles. It would blow it all out the breather with so much blow-by. Just drop it in 4-low and like 3rd or 4th gear and thrash it and it was a blast still.

You guys didn't get hit by black tar?
Our corn got it bad, coming out of field at 14-17.

None of ours we’ve run through the moisture tester has shown it yet anyways!

Just got the 5488 dualed up this morning

How do you like those mastercraft tires? Have you ran them much? I like the looks of them.

Friend of mine runs them in a 31x10.50 variety on his ZJ and goes about everywhere that the diffs dragging won’t stop him. And they were right around $150 a tire

Looks pretty close to the STT they sell under the Cooper brand. Slightly bigger voids. I've had 3 wonderful sets of AT3 tires and 2 horrible sets of the old ATR tires. I'm running AXT tires on the front of the burb. So far I'm happy with them, will likely buy them for the back if these ones hold up.

I'll be taking notes.

I had a set of AT3’s on the old Duramax truck and they were the worst lasting tire I ever had on that truck. Only got 6,000 out of them. BFG’s usually got me around 15,000.

Say what? Mine were still rolling after 60,000 miles (when I sold the truck). Dad still has a set or two in use. Weird.

A diesel tow rig that lives the majority of its towing miles on gravel is pure hell on tires. I always thought it was just me, but the local tire shop owner said I’m not the only one.
