2001 Jeep Cherokee, no longer cheapbeater

I can't wait to see this thing at Tuttle. I may be following around in the crew cab if I don't get the k5running.

I’ll have open seats I’m sure! Hopefully you’ve got the K5 going by next summer though!

Not much major to report but I did get the factory bumper from the other Jeep stuck on (minus the plastic crap). Won’t have time to build a new one so this will make it look legal-ish for now.

And of course I had to be supervised while I changed the oil real quick between other projects.

Oh, dem new plates are UGLY! :doah: :doah: :angry1:

The original stamped white plate wasn't bad, but I think each iteration has been a step down.

And now the urban alternative:

Man, exact same interior my ‘97 had. You’re making me miss that truck.

I’ll do my best to keep you from wanting to build one! After all I caught that Jeep thing and it burns when I pee :haha:

I failed and forgot to get the good American flag ones like the 92 has on it

Nice! I always liked the look of those lifted. Would be fun winter rig!

Thanks Dean!
I really am liking it so far. It’ll look much better with a meaner front bumper and some square tube sliders. It makes a handy little farm run-around too. hopefully we actually get some decent snow to play in this winter with it!

These things are unbelievable in the winter. I'll honestly say that I have never had a vehicle do so well in the winter.

I’m hoping that putting spartan lockers front and rear doesn’t ruin how well they usually do on slick surfaces. Between the larger rubber and lockers it may be a handful.

My boss has my old Jeep. He did a 4" long arm kit and 33" Baja MTZ's and loves it in the snow. It's his winter beater.

Why not leave the front axle open? It's a pretty capable machine in stock form, and it's funner to drive when the steering works right.

Friend of mines ZJ is Locked front open rear. Drives exactly like stock other than the lockers noises. This thing is being built to wheel and drive. I am willing to sacrifice some street manners, I’ve got three other trucks that are all road ready and drive like stock so this isn’t a huge issue on the Jeep.

If he is wanting to get traction at Tuttle, he is going to need to something up front.

Tuttle is still my goal for next year. Haven’t been out of state wheeling in awhile and ours isnt much different every time. It is also handy you say this, because all these goodies showed up today on the UPS truck. From left to right- extended front bump stops, universal bump stops (gonna go on the back), door pin kits (already installed tonight), front differential seals, Dana 30 spartan locker, and ruffstuff adjustable lower control arms.

I need to get my butt in gear and get the high pinion Dana 30 yanked from the red parts Jeep and the rear axle to match from the black one. Then get them cleaned up for installation. Also gotta pull the axle shafts out of my black parts jeep since the high pinion axle I’ve got has the smaller 297 u-joint shafts in it.

Rained out farming for a few days and a friend said to bring the Jeep on over we’ll get a bumper built. Went and picked up a harbor freight 9,000lb winch for it. Didn’t feel like spending the extra $80 on the 12,000 since the Jeep is pretty light. So we get back to his house later that night and there’s a HF flyer in his mailbox with a coupon to get the 12,000 for $30 less than I paid for the 9,000 :surepal:. Too bad I already cut part of the box up for a template.

Gonna head back to the shop today and get a couple more plates added for protection then hit it with a couple spray bombs and hit the highway for home. We made it hang out as wide around the fenders on purpose. I plan on building sliders and connecting them to the bumpers using tube to form a good heavy fender flare/body armor.
