80' 427 submitted a new Build:

2002 k2500hd 8100

Well this won't be to big of a thread but I figured I would start it to at least help me keep track.

Lets face it, I am a BBC guy. I love torque and power of big motors.

It was time to look at a newer truck. One that had more room than my reg cabs, would pull my K30 to the rocks and would be cheap enough for me to afford.

So this is what I came up with: 2002, K2500, 8100 Allison.
Ext Cab SWB. The gearing are 3.73s and it has a G80 which despite the fact it is a Gov lock it is ok with me seeing as the locker/lsd is limited in these. It has a flowmaster in place of the stock muffler and looks otherwise stock.

So this is the day I bought it. Lots of JC Whitney going on.

This is with the board and bug deflector removed

These are my new tires. 255 85 16s BFG mud terrians

Pulled a blazer home on my trailer this weekend. I set the cruise at 65 and it held with no problem and never shifted.

The plan is a Dyno tune by my buddies. Hoping for a bit more mpg and some power. No real other mods will happen till it breaks.

Hey it said happy bday present on FB.... Or was that a joke.

I bought it but the boss gave the OK. She asked what I wanted and I told her I was happy with the truck.

It actually has a 11.5 which is one heavier than a 14ff. I am just hoping it will be a good tow rig. It will look better once all the trim, chrome and emblems are gone.

Yep, 11.5 AAM. You break that, and your either having way to much fun, or you did something entirely too stupid. Surprised it has 3.73s though, most HD's I have came across had 4.10s. No matter, that thing has torque for days.

My first tank showed 11 mpg with the speedo off 3 mph. Hoping to pick up a few mpg.

My dads and mine both has 3.73s. Not sure if it was std or package or what. I would guess the 06s would have 4.11s for sure.

The one I did had 4.10s. Just a different package, I have heard them come both ways. You will pick up a few mpgs after the tune, no worries.

Nice truck. Gotta love the 8.1s.

Shoot. Imo. For as powerful as they are and essentially a modified BB chevy in production. 11-13 mpg is great. I could never get more that 13.7 with mine

Even in stock form with a tune, they have quite a bit of power. Run a 6.0 down no problem all day, and average the same mpg or close to it.

The one I just did, now having cam, headers, roller rockers, ported heads/intake blah blah, averages 15ish, and it can hit 17 or so if it cruises at 55 on flat ground. Yours with 3.73s could best that, as your not so high up in the rpms as this one. Either way, you will get better than 11. Maybe, a cold air intake or a K@N in your factory box to go along with your tune. Worth a bit more HP and MPG as well. I know you dont want to do the header/ect route, but a K@N isnt really modifying it in a sense. Just an idea.

I actually pulled the replacement K&N and reinstalled a new paper element. I read the filter will outflow the TB so for now it will stay paper. I may do a back and back dyno to see if it is worth it. Otherwise I do lots of dirt road driving and they don't filter enough for me.

This thread makes me wish I had bought my dad's K2500 when he sold it. They are good looking trucks.

Well I did a baseline between classes today on the chassis dyno. Started with 262hp and 362ftlbs. Just tuning the power enrichment so it started at 40% throttle and at 1800 rpms gained about 10hp and 13ftlbs. Even at WOT before it was never richer than 14.7, now it is 13 so there is some left in it. The timing is very low at 17 the whole run. Planning on 180 degree thermostat and removing the cats next. Hope there is about 30hp and 40 or so ft lbs of torque to be gained between baseline and tune.

i'm very curious to see how the tune works out for you. I've got a 8.1 in a suburban (4x4, 4.10s) and I'm elated if I get over 13mpg. The power is great and I love towing with it - but it sure sucks fuel.

I also wonder how much difference the allison trans makes. The suburbans never got the allison.
