Why I asked was cause I’ve been driving my Allison for 19 years and always thought it shifted slow going from forward to reverse if your are stuck in snow or mud. And was thinking that it wouldn’t be a great trans for a wheeler. Towing sweet! I see people saying how they should swap in a Allison into whatever they are building and I quietly think to myself that it wouldn’t be worth it.
I was looking for a manual Duramax when we bought ours but we couldn’t find one at the time.
Not to say I’m unhappy with the Allison. We have a ton of mileage on the old girl.
Yours with what you’ve done and the manual is about the best thing going!
I've been super stuck in the mud twice and haven't ever had issues with it. Mud gets in there, but it's non magnetic so it doesn't really interfere with anything.
We're loving the bigger tires and extra up-travel, however we're old, fat and our dogs are old too (not fat though). We finally broke down and bought some Amp Research Power steps. They're awesome!
I've never managed to hit the rockers on the Silverado (don't really rock crawl it) so I think they'll survive, especially with the additional lift.
They make it so much nicer to get in and out, even our dogs are careful to use the steps now too.
I can see where those would help alot! I took the round bars off my 2500HD because I didn't like the look, and they were a little narrow to the point of your foot sliding off them. I like these retractable “boards”. Oh yeah, Im old and fat too!
I wasn't sure how much I'd like them, but I knew my 5' wife would love them. Turns out, they're f**king awesome. I don't have to almost rip the steering wheel off to get in anymore.
We took the Silverado through the Sunflower Mine trail last weekend and thought I'd share some pictures. I really need to LS swap the S-10 so I don't take the Silverado on trails like this though... I bent the tie rod and dented one of the steps.
