2006 Rubicon Unlimited

Knew about the LJ, just never heard of it as a TJ unlimited. Always thought they were 2 separate things.

Add a set of these front and back as soon as possible.
You'll be happy with yourself in the end.
The T pin shock bolts SUCK front and back.
Plus your shocks essentially are your travel limit, and they'll give you another inch at each corner.

Edit... Bar pin eliminators

Used my buddy's press to push the new OE style bushings into the Rubicon Express track bar. We had to push both bushing halves into the bar then press the sleeve in. The OE bushing is larger than what the RE bar requires so it's pretty tight in there. There shouldn't be much movement.

I'll use a socket to center the sleeve and sand down the bushings to the width to fit the bracket before I install it.

So I'm wrong about this and I know I'm wrong. The CJ6 was the first long wheelbase Jeep. My "next best" dream Jeep is a CJ6 with Early Bronco D44/9in, D300 and a 4.0L/AW4 swap.

Then came the CJ8 and the TJU.

Last time I saw an Early Bronco D44 for sale, complete with disc brakes, ready to go it was just under $5k
Just looked them and now can't find.
There is a d44 /Currie housing only $8k empty

I hit up the scrap yard today and picked up an aluminum valve cover from a 1992 XJ to replace my rusty OE piece. It'll take a little looking to find the fittings to make it work but I think Quadratec has what I need.

After I got home, I replaced the transmission crossmember riv-nut with the bolt broken off in it using Black Magic Brake's kit and tool.

Next I replaced the Autolite double platinum plugs with the proper Champion plugs. Once that was done I started it up and let it idle till it was good and warm. The new radiator cap helped build pressure quicker and it easily held temperature.

After that I chased the threads on the four front bumper nuts that are still there and don't have a bolt broken off in them.

I'm hoping I can have it back together and ready to install the repaired track bar on Tuesday when the replacement heim joint arrives

Woke up earlier than I wanted but couldn't go back to sleep so I got started.

I changed both diff fluids with a random assortment of whatever I had in partial bottles. I'll going to change it again soon so this is just to flush out and junk so it's not imperative I use "good" stuff. Some Amsoil, some Fram, some Costal, some Super Tech. It'll be fine.

The t-case got a fresh fill of Valvoline ATF+4. That should do it for a while.

Next was to reassemble and install the t-case crossmember. That was a bit of a chore but it's in now. I got the locker hoses swapped so I had to switch them and they both function properly now.

I'm going to clean up the wheels and put some more paint on the frame but it's almost ready to take off the stands and get registered!

How’s the electrical? Not to jinx it but my buddy’s TJ had a bunch of electrical gremlins.

Knew a guy in Northern Michigan who had a Rubi on 31x11.5-16 LTB’s and wheeled the heck out of it.

The rubi front Dana 44 is really only a 44 ring and pinion, shafts, joints and knuckles etc are all Dana 30. Beware of the factory rubi lockers….the rear is a limited slip when it’s unlocked and the helical gears inside like to grenade and jam the locker.

Best I can tell they're the same 1.31" 30 spline inner shafts with 760-X joints as our K5s. They just use the D30 outers and knuckles.

It seems to be OK so far. There's some asshattery that needs cleaned up from previous owners but that's expected with a 20 year old vehicle.

So far the only thing I've found that doesn't work is the subwoofer. Gotta pull the console eventually and figure out what's up with it.

My buddy had all kinds of dash issues. Turn signals worked occasionally, gauges were intermittently nuts, etc.

A pretty day off work to relax? We can't have that nite can we. Just finished pressure washing under the rear of the tub and front fender wells. They should be ready for a heavy coat of Rustoleum as soon as it's all dry.

Remembered to put my swimming trunks on before dragging out the pressure washer this time.

Took the eldest to breakfast before dropping her at school then grabbed antifreeze from MallMart.

Flused the flush agent out with distilled water and filled the cooling system with fresh 50/50 mix. No runs drips or errors. When the wife lays down in a bit to rest before work in going to change transmission fluid and filter and install the new, not rusted to shiat, transmission pan.

Realized I don't have low or 2 speeds on the heater fan this morning and the windshield washer pump isn't working either so I might look into one of those this evening.

Those 42RLE pans rot out fast, it seems like they are stamped from the thinnest possible material.
