2006 Rubicon Unlimited

Took the eldest to breakfast before dropping her at school then grabbed antifreeze from MallMart.

Flused the flush agent out with distilled water and filled the cooling system with fresh 50/50 mix. No runs drips or errors. When the wife lays down in a bit to rest before work in going to change transmission fluid and filter and install the new, not rusted to shiat, transmission pan.

Realized I don't have low or 2 speeds on the heater fan this morning and the windshield washer pump isn't working either so I might look into one of those this evening.

supposed to hold more fluid; I was in mine rock crawling and I ran out of fluid. I put the RockKrawler pan on mine; however, I don't think it is available anymore

I ordered the Dorman pan and it fit well. The part number you linked cross references to the Mopar pan so hopefully it's the improved pan design.

The Jeep I'm working on, the oil pan is the one I'm worried about. Not sure what yours looks like, but the one on my mom's 2000 xj and the 06 TJ I'm working on now are both rusted bad enough I can't believe they don't leak.

Mine is really rough as well. It's on the list. The ever growing list....

Just ordered a Smitybilt rear bumper. I know they're not the best stuff but the price for a Class 3 rated bumper with some style and no tire carrier was unbeatable.

We’ve got a Smittybilt tube bumper. Be glad you skipped the tire carrier because it sucks, the bumper itself is great.
Check Quadratec for reinforcement brackets for rear bumpers, the stock bumper mounts are pretty lame.

I also ordered a set of the Fishbone brackets that shore up the rear bumper mounts.

Oh look, a Jeep with it's hood up.

I guess whoever swapped engines didn't tighten the oil pump drive/cam position sensor up properly so I started getting a P0016 code today. I pulled over and turned it back to the 4 o'clock position the manual calls for and it stopped throwing the code.

I've got to tighten the hold down bolt tomorrow.

Traded the crappy old rear bumper for a pair of stock bumpers with fog lights. Installed the front for now so I can sell the aftermarket bumper it came with and get a Genright bumper and winch mount combo.

Just to be sure, if the engine has been changed, I'd verify that it has the 2001+ head on it.
I don't remember the numbers, but I I ow the like 97ish to mid 2001 head cracked a lot. Only showing it's self by a constant loss of antifreeze with no leak.

IIRC you've got that backwards. The 1999+ heads with the COP ignition are the light cast heads. The 1998 and earlier are the heavier head.

I remember this because we had the WJ with the light head and when it blew the cooling fan apart with my wife driving and popped the upper radiator hose off the radiator sitting in traffic I was terrified it had killed the weak head too. I spent a good bit of time looking at the updated head they sell aftermarket to remedy that issue.

I just knew 99-00-and early 01 for sure. Had to go through it on my mom's '00 xj. It now has the aftermarket head lol.
It's weird when they crack.
The engine shop that rebuilt the head and did my block work checked it and said it was good. But they don't crack at the cylinder side. They crack in the top directly under the oil fill hole. I couldn't even see a crack but when it was running I could look down the hole and see coolant seemingly weep right through solid cast iron lol.

The Smittybilt is headed back tomorrow.

I'm looking at the GenRight Stubby front bumper.

And the DirtWorx tire carrier rear bumper.

These look like they'll bridge the gap of affordable and quality nicely while being stylish and giving me the features I want.

I've got to begin the part out of my Xterra soon to help fund the Jeep parts.

My buddy picked up a set of color matched 1/2 doors for me today and I'm hoping to get them from him this weekend!

Right on! 1/2 doors were one of the best mods I’ve done to ours.

295 miles round trip in a relatively unproven vehicle today.

Picked up my doors and a transmission skid plate...

Drivers door needed adjusted but fits good now. Uppers are brown (spice?) and usable but I'll be on the lookout for ones to match my top.

I had some wobble around 57mph. It looks like the new heim is already getting loose. I'm really disappointed in that. It hasn't even been offroad yet. Everything else looked nice and tight

0331 heads on 00-01 XJs cracked a lot, but the internet blew that out of proportion like most things….TJs for the most part avoided the cracking heads because by the time they went to COP the issue was resolved
