2007 Build at a Glance

dude you rock! I think someday I'm going to sneak into your garage and just live there for a couple months...just watching, hoping some of it will rub off on me! :)

So now that this beast is turning into an all out rock/trail truck are you going to build something more suitable for Pismo or are we never going to see you out there again?

Why does the song 'Frankenstein' come to mind when I saw those pics   !!!

Awesome build, man :waytogo: !

Good looking work there, Jason. Thanks for posting up and showing us that we aren't doing anyhting spectacular to our rigs by installing the new leaf springs and shackle flips that are "trick" in our little worlds.

I have to repost this statement because it still applies  :haha:  :haha: !!!!!

The thing has been an all out trail/rock truck for years... I've only taken it to pismo once and that was it's last trip. I'm just not really into the giant sand box

The youngins typically don't know that :D

Maybe you ought to drag out a few old pics - say e.g. when it had full-body sheetmetal and you dragged it through Upper Helldorado  :haha:

Nah I knew it was a rock/trail truck for most of its life but I didn't realize you weren't into the big sandbox...shoot this wasn't too long ago...

Hows that?

Alright, not much to show but got alot done... Got the 14 bolt out and the old 4 link brackets all cut off the frame for a clean slate tomorrow morning. As you may notice, thats not a steering axle... I decided, in an effort to make it on my rubicon trip in 2 weeks, that I would throw a standard rear in for now. I'll just build a simple bridge over the diff for the upper links instead of spending all the time on the removable brackets like the front since this won't be in long. I do plan on having the steering axle back there before Moab in late Sept. So yeah I'm cheating :)

14 bolt coming out:

Bigger, badder, bolder, straighter axle going in:

These are two of the calipers I'm going to try out. I did alot of digging through parts catalogs and surfing on rockauto and found these two. The smaller one will work well but may not have the braking I'm after but it's a pretty beafy dual piston unit. The larger definately would have the braking I'm after but may not clear the wheel... More on this mid next week as I finish the rotors and caliper mounts. If either of these won't work then I'm going with Wilwood Superlites with 4 pistons. They will fit no problem but are kinda pricey :uh oh:

What are those calipers off of?

Oh and what are ya' doing with that 14ff now? :) Will it be up for sale?

Yes it is.

No idea on the calipers, I just went through part #'s till I found what I wanted. The big one says ford and the little one says nissan.

Got alot done today as well but you can't tell in the pics of course... Got the rear axle 75% in with the lower links finished and the shocks finished:

The ugly tube above the diff is for the upper links. I figured if it's coming out soon why make it pretty? :D All thats left is brakes and upper links in the rear... The driveshaft is pretty muchd one and the brake lines are pretty mcuh set. I cleaned up and stacked tires against the axle so I couldn't take pics of the last stages of the night but oh well. Should have the rear done tomorrow afternoon.

Ordering a ton of parts right now for this week...

RIP Dozer :(

Looks cool...so what does this put your gear ratio at? I'm assuming its reduced twice...once at the ring/pinion and again at each end where it drops down...

Well dang in all my exhaustion I ordered 4 left side calipers :p Oh well, guess I have to unbolt two to bleed them...

Anway, got my new centers in my new wheels. Extra thanks to GoZuki again for waterjetting me these centers in no time flat. Shiny area is where I turned them in the lathe after welding to true up the mounting surface:

Got the mog rotors turned down from 14.750" to 13.900". Then got the F350 calipers on. I abondened the 8 lug idea due to time and complexity.

I'll have a mini-writeup on the brakes since I'm sure others will be interested for their axles.

Rear suspension is pretty much set, just needs gusseting in a few spots:

Also finally got my bead protection rings welded on from 66cjDean. Bought them over a year ago lol:

Thats one down...

Hey it's almost a roller:

Also got one of my skid buffets dropped so I could cut out all of the old exhaust and get to the back of my front link crossmember so I could weld it up:

IMG_0152.jpg

Exhaust may be a bit loud lol:

Bought 30 feet of 2.5" exhaust pipe, 6 U bends, 2 magnaflow mufflers, and a couple o2 sensor bungs and a couple o2 sensor sims. Since the truck is now green stickered I'm getting rid of the cats since they don't really fit anymore anyway so the sims will take care of the post cat sensors.

oh...I really don't know what to say...
This is an absolute tragedy and my prayers go out for his family...imo I think its only appropriate to honor his life as a wheeler on ck5 in a permanent way...Craig how about making up some respectful avatars for the time being?

Gosh this is terrible...
