i feel like i have cheating on you guys for not having a thread here for a while. so i reupped my membership and come bearing videos and some tech.

last year i finally had my 496 bbc gone thru and put it in the truck mid year. had some bugs, like the pistons were hitting the spark plugs causing a miss. got that figured out and ran this fair bog.

we did a lot of traveling. went out to columbus ohio to a place called awesome acres. came home with 5' tall 1st place trophys and a trophy girl.

went to a new place with a really rough pit. ruined my rear springs this day. bent all 4 spring eyes.

THEN i was able to borrow some cut tires. this is our local track, it is 3' deep at the halfway point. i bought the tires after this run.

Great update and congrats on the trophies (and girl). Can't wait to get home tonight to watch the videos.

she was too young, so i threw her back. she said she loved our Pennsylvania trucks and wanted a pic. not sure the wife would have let me keep her anyway.
all the local guys at the bog wouldn't even talk to us when we showed up. later that day they were washing my buddies windows for him.

be sure to turn up the sound. more coming shortly.

How much does the truck weigh now?

not sure on the weight. very curious myself, i'm hoping under 4k. i'll take it to the scrapyard maybe saturday and weigh it. i have it cut up even more now.

this is with the 39.5 cuts.

for this year, i wanted a new look and it was getting old looking at all the rusty, faded body parts. i put new cab corners and a new rocker, and fixed the drivers side floor. my first time doing body work. i was here looking for ideas and processes. i welded in the panels. my sister did the putty work, and had a friend paint it.

some vids of that day.

pretty sure this was the fastest pass of the day. i got 2 1st places, beat about 35 trucks.

ohio on 5-4-14 . jefferson fairgrounds.

and then on the next pass. broken dana 60 outer. i just put drive slugs in, and when it broke, it shot out in the pit somewhere.

for the tech, i debated over winter to switch to a d44 front axle to save weight. after talking it over with mud racing friends i stayed with the d60. i would only save about 150lb?? according to here in the shipping thread. i also got talked out of going to a manual rack and pinion steering setup. still might go with a power rack.

to save some weight but retain strength, i swapped to 3/4 ton brakes on the d60. i bought the smallest 3/4 ton calipers with a 2.9" diameter piston, and small rotors, with a vendor from pirate4x4 3/4 ton brackets. i saved 33lb total and my brakes work way better. i already have manual brakes with a 1" master cylinder.

Sounds very healthy! Thanks for the vids, now my pants fit funny. :doah: :haha:

Thanks.

Its an experience driving it now. You can feel it lift out of the mud and take off.

Thought about running mud plugs in your wheels keep the mud out of them?

Not sure how well they would work, but sprint cars use them.

we change tires for the different classes and are usually pressed for time. some of the pits are thin mud so i think the mud would just come in from the backside and fill the wheel up with mud with no where to go.

the cut tires are on 15" wide 5 dirt car wheels, they really don't get down in the mud. i had to buy a new beadlock ring and they wanted to sell me one with clips for a cover.

with the 3/4 ton brake swap on the dana 60, i can fit 15" wheels with 4" backspacing now, with no grinding.\

more videos of weekend of 5-4-14

the broken d60 shaft happened here.

this past sunday at our local bog.

broke the front driveshaft u joint in this one. the mud was so thick it wouldn't get on top, even with the 39.5 cuts.

Love that sound of your 496 - in some of the last vids you can really tell what kind of power you have on tap with that thing! Looks like your rig really floats well up on top of the muck too. I bet it is hard to shave the weight down on one of those heavy K trucks!

Great vids. Enjoyed watching them all and reading this thread. Keep em' coming!

Are there different classes in those vids? Seems it's not really fair to have that little yellow tube buggy with all the full size stuff. That thing just floats.

Truck looks and sounds great though :thumb:

Yes different classes.

The first video is b class, any size dot tire, no nitrous, no tube frame.

Next video is A class, any tire, no nitrous.

Next is open, anything goes.

Open is pretty much the rail class most all the trucks bump up into the bigger classes, so we are out classed, but it only takes one fowl up and they get sunk and were in the money.
