2019 Rigs of CK5 calendar - Episode 16 - The Rebirth

@Can Can @Bent77

Ok it's been roughly a week now so I'm curious, can anyone confirm if there was enough entries for the project to go forward?

Ok, I'm back in action on CK5. Yes, I was home for a week and Kim and I had a ton of running around to do, including finalizing the sale of the BC property (the new owner took possession on Nov. 7th). On top of that, I came back to Inuvik and had to deal with an issue with our production facility and some fun and games with a supplier who is acting like a spoiled child. Sorry for leaving everyone hanging........

We weren't getting very many pic submissions in early October, so Kim and I held off opening the calendar sales page. I was hoping for a last minute rush of emails (seems to happen every year), but it didn't amount to much. We simply didn't get enough to choose from and as a result, we won't be going ahead with the Rigs calendar for 2019. To put it in perspective, there were years when we would receive 50+ submissions, and this year only 19 people bothered sending in pics. Of those, there were several outstanding calendar-worthy shots, but with 15 pages to fill, there weren't enough to ensure a high-quality final product. That being said, I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to send in their pics. Hopefully next year we get more participation from the Brotherhood and tradition of the annual Rigs of CK5 calendar can resume. 2019 would have marked our 16th edition. :(

There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however. Bent77 and I were collaborating on a Blazer Bash calendar in October but I couldn't devote enough time on my end (tons of pics to sift through). Mark did his part but I wanted to make sure we didn't miss any spectacular pics and I wasn't able to set aside the time needed to go through all the BB pic threads. Although we're running out of time, there's still a chance a Rigs of BB calendar could get built. I know it may not have the same appeal as a general CK5 calendar, but stay tuned for more.

What about another push for submissions now that we no there we only 19? You posted before that it was low but with folks sending multiple pics from events and such I, at least, assumed there'd be enough. I didn't have anything to submit because my junk isn't running but shit I'll send a shop / yard pic.

I do NOT want this to die. :(

I can get on google images. I want a calendar!

Seriously, if we can do one last go, I can post on # burblife and see if anybody wants to join CK5 and get there rig in a calendar...

also in on the combined pics calendar idea . if there all our rigs and you make them i am always in for at least 2 of them .

It wasn't the dual-calendar concept that killed this, @skunked - it was the lack of participation in general. Regardless, I was planning on including a couple of Moab pics in the Rigs calendar as we always do. The week before the deadline we didn't have enough pics to even fill the calendar. To make matters worse, some of the pics we received this year were very low resolution and others were just filler material. In past years, Kim and I have had to make tough decisions as our shortlist had at least 20 or more awesome pics. This year the issue was exactly the opposite. That being said, a few of this year's submissions were some of the best pics we have ever received.

With all the submitted photos for both publications

That's the problem, David. There were very few actual submissions hitting my email inbox this year. And some that we received were low-res, out-of focus, missing spec lists, etc. There are a ton of great pics floating around on CK5 but I don't have the time to scan threads looking for pics and follow up with people to see if they're interested and make sure things get sent in- that's not how we've ever gone about building the calendar. Heck, there are pics in this very thread that didn't end up getting emailed to me. Trust me, I take no pleasure in this............

If I got an extra dozen QUALITY submissions sent to me in the next couple of days we could probably make a go of it, but as of right now we would end up turning out a sub-par product if we went ahead.

So you're willing to give it another small chance??

If so, how do people know if their cell pics are high enough quality?

I know some people's mailboxes have an image size limit, and my phone takes super massive huge pics, so if my pics didn't land in your inbox, I'll send smaller yet still very useable pictures for you.

@Can Can

If you have the time, it would help to know if the pics that I sent were acceptable or not. Or some kind of notification that you got the email but the pic was too small, etc. The reason I am requesting this is because I wasn't sure if you received my email or not and more of what you are looking for.

I know you have been very busy.....I was hoping that any of the pics I sent would have helped in some way.

What about pics from last year? I sent you some last year. Do you still have those?

Your pics showed up no problem. And FWIW I'm able to accept emails up to about 10MB so even the biggest pics come through.

Same question - did mine come through?
