208 doubler project...updated 3-10-06

i hope to take the 208 to work next week and start chopping.

still need to find a 6 bolt pattern 32 spline 205.

and a th400 to np208 adapter.

Agreed..... Using the front half of the 208 would be a much more attractive package.

The chain would be in there.... but you wouldn't be driving thu it.... It only turns the front output of the 208, which you wouldn't be using.

Marv

But if you did the project like the first pics, cutting the case.. Or like the guy did on PBB with the 231... WOuldn't you eliminate the chain and whole backhalf and just keep the front planetary section?

unfortunatly no.

i have been looking for some time now for a six bolt 32 spline np205, to no avail. have been super busy at work, so no time to sneak in some work on the mill.

This has been my plan for some years now . I have it started i just need to finish fabbing the adapter . I will try and get some pics tomorrow . I am using the front part of a 208 with the front output chopped off and boxed and a ford 205 because have a ford HP front D60 . As of now I am running and Ifs gm 241 with a modified 208 floor shifter with the HP 60 . I will also twinstick the 205 . I need to get going on this it has been sitting for too long ....

snip......
it seems that the planetaries get oil from the slinger here:

Just to clarify, that's not the slinger. That is an oil galley. The slinger would be what ever throws the oil up there.

Don't know if its already in here but how about a donor 208 planetary & hsg, grafted to the front of the existing 208; with a new design shaft through both? In otherwords, add the doubler in front of the 208, without a separate box. Rotate the added shift rail to the other side, add an external oiler hose from the pump to the fr planetary, lengthen the fr drive shaft, shorten the rear, and two cross members. That makes what a 4-6 inch difference? Not saying is feasible, just looking at the exploded diagram.

finally got some time on the mill. should have the 465/205 in two weeks or so. just got a 208 32 spline input today. cut the case, made a plate to cover the hole, and then cleaned up aluminum shavings for an hour.

also notice my osha approved super high dollar chip deflection devices.

No man, they can't be OSHA approved nor ANSI certified unless you taped them down with duct tape :haha:

But I betcha they're USPS approved (even though I see one says DHL)...
