241 questions...VSS-> mech speedo? page 2

ttt....has anybody done the VSS to mech swap? if so where did you get parts? ive been calling all over and nobody can seem to help me :mad:

Just swap to the VSS setup. Better than cable for a bunch of reasons. You've already got the most difficult part to get (the t-case) just ditch the cable.

You'll spend just as much time, effort, and money getting a VSS case to cable, as you would swapping to the VSS speedometer, and probably more.

hmm...i alreasdfy have the cluster from the k5 that the case came from. guess ill just have to wire it up...

If you've got the speedometer cluster, you'll just need to repin the cluster connector, add the VSS wiring (looks to me like an S10 or Astro will donate the wiring and connector, they seem to be the same) and get/power a DRAC, again an Astro is a good donor.

Once you get that setup, calibrating the speedometer is as easy as soldering some jumpers on the DRAC board. :)

Once again, thanks for the info. I'm looking for a mechanical speedo 241 right now but if I dont find one I'll be trying this.:bow:

If you didn't run across it, I started another post with "DRAC" in the title quite awhile back, which has a lot more info in it.
