2WD X-Cab Solid axle swap. Follow my build up!

turning radius will suck too. the width would be great for a super lifted mud truck, but thats about it

its all i have for rims at the moment so until i can get a set of h1's these will have to do.

Got the front end in today!!!!!:D

The truck is big....Real big. Hopefully not too big. :o A buddy of mine gave me a card to an offroad shop in the area...one i never knew was there. Im gonna meet with the guy, tube bed is in order:D

I still have to drill another set of holes in the shackles, move the front springs back 1-2" and im gonna have the brackets welded to the frame after everything is done to make sure its strong. Im so glad the front is together though...its aboot damn time!!!!

what are you planning on doing for front shocks? i'm considering swapping a SFA into my 92 C1500, and this is the only thing that really puzzles me with the coil buckets being right there.

Jeremy,
With the axle under, you can tell the front shocks are gonna point right up through the buckets. So it seems the options are to either build a mount so the shock runs through the bucket or weld new mounts on the axle and lay the shocks back so they will hit the frame instead.

Thanks man. Ive been talking back and forth with Kert (diy4x) so my mounts should be in soon. Then im going to the local 4x4/ fabrication shop and having a crossmember made up to inboard it all. Should come out pretty awsome!:D I just cant wait.

what kind of brackets are you having fabbed up? i talked to Kert briefly about coming up with a Flip-n-Switch for the 88-98 trucks.

This is something complety differant for inboarding the rear springs. It would be easy enough to replicate and change for another application but youd have to move the spring perches. my biggest gripe with these trucks is the tapered frame, so it makes it a pain to move the axle foreward. in the stock location the brackets are all square, and the springs are tapered too. But since my front mount will be on the part of the frame thats parellel and the rear will be on the part thats tapered the mounts im going to use have to account for that. Also inboarding the rear springs will be nice for flex... not the best for road manners but will see what happens there.

Sping spacing center to center is goin to be aroun 39-40 inches.

Made some progress on the rear suspension!:D The back end mocked up...

The welding is about 60% done. I have the front spring mounts ready to go but i need more wire. also i need more time!!!! lol

Oh and btw, my shackle flip weighs about 75 lbs:crazy:

im confused... how are you going to mount the front of the springs now?

I have another piece of 2"x6" 1/4" steel for the front mounts. That is going to be a removable crossmember, it will look like this, and have two spring buckets underneath.

Are you planning on a 63 inch rear spring?? if so won't that put your axle up under the back ox the cab ?? or do you plan to use 56" springs backwords? 9which would still be close) neat project by the way should be cool when your done

gonna run 64's that will put the axle center line 22" from the back of the cab. if needed a zero rate pushing 1.5" backward's...
eventually cutsom springs with and offset mounting point....
