3/4 Ton Swap is DONE: **d-shaft question**

ya do the swap. I guarenty you will be so much happier with the gearing even on the street that you might not want to sell the thing. Believe me going from 3.08s to 4.10s I felt like the truck gained 100hp, and that was with 35s. So with 38.5s you should see an even better gain.

ok it's on...I saw my boss tonight and I am arranging to get Thursday afternoon and Friday off...
That'll give me 2 1/2 days to get it done and Sunday if I absolutely had to for some reason.

One thing that I'm still not sure of is how I'm going to jack it up being that it has 9" of lift.

The best idea I could think of was to use the floor jack to lift it by the axle...
Take the wheel off...
Lower it down until the brakes are fairly close to the ground...
Use my 2 1/2 ton jack stands along with the huge wood blocks I got at the lumber yard across the street from my work and use those to support the truck by the frame...
Then lower the floor jack and start pulling stuff out.

Is that how you guys do it?

3 1/2 ton garage jack with 30" max lift height, 6 ton jackstands, and 3/4" thick I beam risers we use at work for motorhomes. :D wood could work, but i prefer overkill.

would it be super ghetto if I just used my Hi-Lift and picked it up then slid my jack stands and blocks under it or do you really need to use the floor jack?

-Avery

I would just go with your current plans. Jack it up take the tire off put jackstand and wood under the frame (remember you are taking the axles off right) That will probably put your axles pretty close to the ground. Use the floor jack to more the axles around. Wal Mart has bigger jackstands for like 30 bucks though. Might be worth it to grab some if you have the money

$30...really!

Shoot I wouldn't mind...even if they were $100 it would be worth it since it's me that'll be under this thing...
The only larger jack stands I've seen around have been some at Harbor Freight...they were like 5 ton jack stands and were like $100...

I never thought to check at Wally World.

i've got 2 pairs of bling bling jack stands. :D 24" tall fully extended.

I agree to do the swap and you'll probably be happier with it that you want to keep it. And if you still want to sell it, it will be easier with the swap already done. IMHO, you should have had it done a couple months ago. Quit procrastinating.

jack it up by the axles and put the jackstands under the springs close as you can get them to the axles.

but plz remember uve gotta swap wheels lol make sure u can borrow that CC ur parents bought to take the tires and get them swapped and balanced if u dont wanna loose ur fill-ins. and thank god ur building it b/c know ur gonna know a lil more about it for when it breaks.

Uhhh, ok...and yeah I already have everything to do the swap, like I said before. I have 15X10 Black Steelies sitting in the garage...
I also have a set of rollers on 16's that I can put on once I swap the axles in so that I can drive it over to the tire shop and have them pull my tires off my old rims and mount them on the new ones.

gmc4cw: I don't think that'll work...these springs have so much arc in them that there is only a couple inches where they are "flat" on the bottom and that's where they rest on the axle. If I were to do that there would be a VERY good chance that it would slip off...

well heres a pat on the back for thinkin ahead. i found a cucv 14bolt rear today and im so thinkin about tryin to get it so i might join u on the 3/4 ton club

about room, do what i did and buy your self a camper!LOL

not really i ripped it off in a week, you could get a soft top camper and youll still have more room, for like a bed LOL.

c'mon im 16 and did an engine/clutch swap in one day. i took the new engine out of the blazer and put it in my new 3/4 ton truck, havent gotten the whole timming thing right maybe this weekend it will start and i'll take it for a cruise .

lol, true...but I doubt you have half the crap on your engine since you are in Texas...plus you have two forms of transportation...it gives you a sense of comfort in the back of your head knowing that it's no biggie if it's not done in time.

not reallyi need plates for my dd they expired 3 days ago!LOL and well i still need wiring and exhaust , hey maybe when you come down for college we can go "wheelin"LOL

heck yeah we can...

shoot...I ran around town for months (about 4) with expired plates...never had any problems.
The DMV messed up my address and never sent me anything...I called and they said just to wait until it got there...so after 4 months I went in and just took care of it, lol.
